Apagio restaurant reviews on TripAdvisor this February. Looking at the write up the cook at the restaurant is Poppi. Does anyone know if the location is Kania beach and it is a new name for the restaurant on Kania beach. if it is the beach taverna, what arrangements do you think there are to get over there at night. I would be interested in any info any of you may have. We will be in Halki again mid May. Counting down the days now.

Thanks for the info Carol. I love Popi' s food so look forward to being able to eat it in the evening. Do you know whether she will still be at Kania during the day

I would think running her own taverna in the harbour would be a full time job in anybody's book.

I would think running her own taverna in the harbour would be a full time job in anybody's book. I would have thought running any taverna in the harbour would have one or two technical challenges to overcome.

I thought so too, but just wondered what would be happening at Kania I'm quite certain Kania will look after itself. They are well on top of that operation. Things seldom stay the same in Halki.

So where have Maria & Mike gone? No indication they were planning to retire last time we saw them in July. Seemed very happy carving out a modest living based on doing only few relays a night.

Mike became seriously ill. They have left the island and "I believe" are on Crete.

That is very sad news regarding Mike and Maria Sth. We have become used to sampling Maria's cooking and Mike's 'firewater'. We have had many a late evening sharing banter and happy times with the 'Baddest man on Halki'. I'm sure the 'Halki Visitors' will join me in sending very best wishes to Crete if that is at all possible.
As you so rightly say Sth Halki is everchanging. It is very different to when we first came, some 20 years ago, and will continue to change. The holiday season is their only means of making a living and there will never be an empty taverna site for long.
Poppi is an outstanding cook and a 'lovely' lady. She too is a very good friend and will have her supporters from Kania. An opportunity for her on the waterfront and we are pleased for her.

With regard to the Minori Taverna, when we were there last September Maria was running the taverna with the help of a young girl as Mike was in and out of hospital. We rarely saw him but when he was there he said that it was getting too much for him and that it would be his last season as they were retiring to Crete. He clearly wasn't well, but was still an excellent host, plying us with retsina. They will be missed and we wish them a long healthy and happy retirement. We will be returning as usual on September 15th staying at the Dorothea. Can't wait.
Best wishes to all,
Chris & Lesley.
