Hubby & I returned last night from our very first trip to Halki aka paradise! We have fell in love with Halki & the amazing people on the island. Our trip was very easy flights ferry etc we stayed in the Kaliopi studios, which are very basic clean apartments with the most stunning views, a bit of a hike up, but we got used to it & would stay there again. We did a boat trip to a little deserted island ( I cant remember name) but its on the Nikos Express & leaves every Monday. More of a swimmers trip, which we arent very good swimmers, but still a nice relaxing day trip. Our favorite beach was Pomandas (hope thats the correct spelling) just loved it!! The taverna on the beach was just heaven, great food, cold beers & friendly staff, the clearest waters we have ever seen. We ate every day in Bar Kifi & Minorva, Mike was a great guy & Marias cooking was superb! Dimitri the baker we met on the ferry going over & loved him & hes cheese & ham & spinach pies. Also shared many rakis with him, yammas! He even came to wave us off yesterday & I was in tears! We had such an amazing week, no newspapers, internet or tv, just great food, drinks, swimming & lovely friendly people. We will return!!

Hi. Your're more than welcome. When I get my head back from Halki time, I'll do a more detailed breakdown on all sections. Thanks to all that gave me advise beforehand. A truly magical place...x

Hi. We used a lovely little taverna next to Dimitris bakers, but I'm having problems trying to spell the name, we were told it was Kifis. All lilac furniture & lilac pots with lovely herbs in Arana the young waitress gave me a jar of grapes in syrup/honey to bring home. I'm wanting to add a review but just cant find tavernas name anywhere, for usvthe best gyros & tzatziki, yoghurt & cherries in syrup, loved it there!! So if anyone can spell the name for me will be much appreciated, thanks

James, can you spell the taverna name? I know its pronounced Kifi, but not sure of spelling! My god we ate so much in there, the food was so good, morning greek yoghurt with cherries in syrup I was asking for it at lunch time!! The best gyros as well! We had such a great time sat with Dimitri the baker, so many laughs & a bit too much raki!

I think it is Kefis, but perhaps someone on site now can confirm exact naming, I'm not back for a couple of months to road test again ! But two of those Chicken Souvlaki wraps plus a retsina at lunchtime was excellent value, 10 Euros plus a complimentary 'clear liquid' that I'm sure was Mastika, it went down very well. I know a number of people who ate in there on a regular basis in the evening I am sure the owner said that the design/name was an animal shelter, it is not, as yet, listed on Trip Advisor. Whilst everyone will have their favourite eating/drinking places, we have always tried to give everyone custom although in June, that simply wasn't possible in a week. There is always an elasticated trouser band issue about anytime on Halki, but we do try and get out walking every day, legging it over to Kania and back for example our daily 'cemetery circuit'. I'm so glad that you had a great time and obviously will be returning. Dimitri, bless him, one a number of 'local legends'. With best wishes.

Many thanks for that, the animal shelter thats how it was explained to us!! Great value in Kefis, we would have lunch number one in Pomadas beach & lunch number 2 in Kefis, but figured the walking we did we deserved it!! We stopped drinking the clear liquid after day 5!! We spent many a happy raki day with Dimitri, whose laugh was so infectious! Yes we will return, but for longer than a week. Thanks for your advise, yammas!!
