We've just returned from 9 lovely nights on Halki - we spent 2 nights in Rhodes town first ... Rhodes old town is always worth a mooch around and although is obviously 'touristy' is still a nice place to spend a couple of days we stayed in the Hermes hotel which is a cheap and cheerful place but ideal for a base, its opposite the harbour and right by the bus station, rooms are basic but clean, most with balconies overlooking the harbour, the buffet breakfast is excellent and the staff all friendly. On Halki we stayed at the volkaris ? not sure how you spell it via Nissia .Lovely apartment with a large terrace with excellent views, last time we stayed in the one next door and since then the separating railings between the apartments have been filled in to allow a bit more privacy when on your terrace which is better IMO. Its been four years since our last visit and I'm pleased to say .. nothing much has changed ! there are a couple of new tavernas since our last visit but thats about it. Prices seem reasonable too. We went to the three main beaches and all were ready for action ! food was excellent at them all and we ate in our favourite places at night and had great food everywhere. The weather was a bit hit & miss the first few days but it settled down to lovely sunny days and warm evenings .....and that's it !... It was lovely to be back and we'll try not to leave it so long next time

Thanks, Liz, for the update - also interesting to read about your stay in Rhodes. As an experiment this time we are trying Birmingham flights and the timing makes a night in Rhodes necessary. We have used the Hermes in the past but more recently have stayed at the Savoy which is nearby and also convenient with good buffet breakfast. I'd be interested to know if by chance any other Halkiites are travelling from Birmingham on 5th June.
