Finally got around to booking for July 2017!
For anyone interested I ended up going Olympic. It was a flip of a coin between Saturday or Wednesday but I get the idea that Wednesday is the usual day for Halki visitors. Saturday was marginally cheaper so perhaps I'm a bit stupid not going for that...
So, Wednesday morning flights out of Manchester on Enter Air (heard good and bad things). Gets to Rhodes for 13:45 so leaves a bit of breathing room for any delays (touch wood there won't be...). Must admit missing the ferry is the bit I'm most worried about but what will be will be at the end of the day. I couldn't actually find any other flights through Olympic at any airport that gets there before then without adding +£400 to go on Monarch.
Was very tempted to go Nissia and Monarch which would have been an almost identical price but just ended up taking the view that in the grand scheme of things we're covered for pretty much every eventuality with Olympic and as I've not been there for 16 years it's just going to be easier.
On a side note about Olympic - it looks like their prices fluctuate A LOT! I've seen the price go up and down by at least £70pp over the last two weeks. Managed to get the cheaper rate.
The only problem is now I have to wait 155 days!

Well done, I am sure you won't regret it. Wednesday is still the normal changeover day and therefore the ferries run more frequently and at different times to other days but with three local ferries now it is actually possible to get across every day in the summer season. We travel independently these days and lately we have used both the catamaran and the big ferry from Rhodes, more options for next time

Just booked for May with Olympic - some very good prices there. Flight from London 9am, arriving 15.30. Slightly concerned that may be too late for the ferry. Does anyone know?

If you have booked with Olympic, the transfer to Halki's part of the package. Both Olympic and Nissia have 'arrangements' with the ferries they use such that they won't leave until all their clients have boarded. Olympic wouldn't offer the flight option you've gone with if it wasn't compatible with time needed to get to the port before the ferry was 'due' to depart.
Flight time looks a bit long - outbound from Gatwick with Easyjet's 3hrs 45mins (or thereabouts), 4hr return (air traffic control delays excluded!)

Sorry to disagree .. but its well known that Olympic often overnight their guests on Rhodes if the arrival time is too late to catch the ferry and they cross over the following day .. I would have thought the 'long flight' was because of the time difference .. You may be able to cross that day but I'd double check if its a problem for you

The first time we visited Halki we arrived from Manchester at around 3.30 local time. As soon as we got to Kamiros and boarded the ferry we were on our way. Can't say if that means there's an arrangement or not but why wait for us otherwise? Cheers. Tom and Rose

Thanks Tom & Rose .. I'm sure that's reassuring for David , Iknow he's asked onFB too and had a reply that the 3.30 has not been a problem for other travellers so that is good .. just didn't want to give the assumption that the ferry waits regardless of the time .. Olympic do overnight on Rhodes .. there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it .. but it can happen 😏
