We arrived last Thursday morning on the Prevelis after a night at the Lydia hotel in Rhodes town, Caroline and Yorgos met us and after a quick coffee with a friend we went up to Villa Yorgos our home for three weeks, once we got everything sorted out we headed for Ftenagia and a wonderful emotional welcome from Nik, Leli and Roberto. Lunch followed along with copious amounts of beer and Retsina, a lovely start to our holiday. That night we ate at Remezzo and shared our favourite pizza carbonara plus a couple of starters washed down with retains and a glass of George's delicious limoncello, great service from Takis and a real joy to be back there.
Friday we had been invited to Kania for a birthday lunch along with 7 others, it was great to see what has been done there over the winter, great and tasteful improvements. Lunch was very long the food was amazing and the company was brilliant and extremely entertaining, a truly wonderful day.
Friends arrived on the Fedon on Sunday morning and we had a lot of catching up to do which was all done at Ftenagia over a very long lunch and then a late swim, dinner was again at Remezzo and excellent as always followed by a couple of drinks in the Piazza bar.

I planned to write something on here every day but I seem to have been busy doing nothing except eat drink and socialise, those of you that know me will be saying that is nothing new !! Monday was our 30th wedding anniversary and again involved a lunch at Kania with friends followed by an early evening cocktail at the bar at Pondamos, it was festival night so we were prepared for a late night and it was, we got to bed at 3.45am. We had dinner at Magefseis which was great and sat listening to the music and watching the dancing, it is a very special night and we are lucky to be there most years to enjoy it.

It is sometimes difficult to find the time to post while you're there. So little time and so much relaxing, chilling and generally being unwound from the daily chores of life in general. It really is hard to make the effort to lift our eyes up from a book to order another round of drinks Cheers. Tom and Rose

Only one week left, time has gone by so quickly yet again, we had new friends arriving yesterday and friends leaving, always sad to say goodbye but hopefully we will meet again before next years holiday. The island is starting to quieten down a bit now with a lot of Italians returning home and the UK children returning to school, the weather is exceptionally calm at the moment and the sea this morning is like glass, I am going fishing later with Simon and we are hoping to get round the island and also catch a few Dorado. Off to Tilos tomorrow for the day on the catamaran.

Have a great day on Tilos! For me, just a trip on the Dodek Express is a treat in itself but I must say I enjoyed my day trip to Tilos in July far more than I expected - I'd gone mainly to get stock photographs but left the island thinking it might actually go back on my holiday possibility list in the future. I had two weeks on Tilos in 2006 with Laskerina which, though enjoyable, left me feeling that it wasn't somewhere I would go back to as it felt a bit too "touristy". I didn't get that feeling so much in July so I will no longer be ruling it out. That said, Lipsi is the one island that I most want to re-visit (excluding Halki of course!) but that remains very much a DIY trip - not always easy when you have a full time job and a precise number of days off

Fishing was extremely productive and between us we caught 8 Dorado including one very large one that fed 10 of us last night. Sea conditions were and continue to be extremely calm so we were able to go right round the island, a first for me as it has usually been too rough.

Our last day in Halki today, we leave for a night in Rhodes on the catamaran this afternoon, hoping to get to Lindos tomorrow, it is over 30 years since we last went there. We have had a wonderful holiday made extra special by being with great friends from home and also from Halki, sad to be leaving but our dates are already booked for next year so I know we are coming back, longer report when I am home, writing on a kindle is not easy.

Having just completed a magnum opus 2016 Kinygos II Blog I know only too well that the blog format is hard work. All the more so if you include photographs. Include videos, and the task is Herculean as these have to be substantially edited. I would not want to type on a touch screen and, if you were hoping to create a truly contemporaneous log, I am sure you soon found out that it was an onerous responsibility. I am wondering if the promise to write a “longer report when I am home” will materialise! A holiday is a holiday and we do not want it to become a chore; however we want to inspire enthusiasm in “The Rock”. It is looking as if the regulars are slipping away due to age, infirmity, or death. The island needs a new influx of holiday makers; so we try, we try…
