He he, I quite like the sound of a gin slushy, how about it Jill ? I see we have gone off piste again, no pun intended !! How have we managed to get from a Halki update to freezing gin ? Never mind it's all good fun ;) As you know only too well Carol, it always comes back to flavoured ethanol for a long thread! "off piste" shouldn't that read "on the..."?!

As a voice of great experience I would only advise getting seriously 'on the piste' once you are safely 'off the piste' (I have various scars to prove it!).
...Very much liking the idea of a Gin slushy though Carol, you might just be onto something there.....Does this still count as a 'Halki update'??

Yes I think so Andy, it sounds like Simon may have invented a new Halki drink so I consider that to be an update don't you ?

Re round the island trips on a Monday, on the Nicos Express.
Just a few extra points for those yet to try this. The trip clockwise around the island is truly stunning view-wise. Yes the short section around the south east point and up the west side can be a little bumpy (experienced this on the very first trip of this venture last July) this is not always the case. Last Monday for example (July 25th) the swell was barely noticeable. The high spot especially for swimmers is the half hour stop in the spectacular remote bay on the northwest side (Thio Giali?) which is entirely sheltered, giving the gentlest of waves. Those who wish can then skip into water for the most marvellous swim.
This was the stopping point for the round the island trip in the old Laskarinia days. We happened also to go on the very first trip on the old wooden boat in late July 1990. The trouble then was no one had thought how to get everyone back on the boat! Have some amazing pictures of people negotiating a precarious rope ladder. No such problem with the Nicos Express which has a permanent metal ladder into the sea. Enjoy!

I remember having a struggle to get back in the boat after swimming stops years ago. Looking forward to going around the island again.
Brilliant update J90 and follow on comments.
Like the idea if the gin slushy Carol!
