OK. I'm sure this has been asked many times.
I'm single, 66yrs old. Quiet peaceful is what I'm after. Is there anything available for a single person that is not going to be priced out of reach of a pensioner. Struggling this year for anywhere. Thanks

Hi Terry Depends where you're flying from, when you want to go and most importantly, what your budget is? This is a start I suppose but the finer details would be up to you... Cheers Tom and Rose

You give too few parameters for any definitive answer! However I suggest that if you are retired you have time to research a DIY trip. 1 Check Zifos Travel*, and Halki Direct to find a suitable place to stay. NOTE "price per person" indicates that they want numbers sharing, this is no good for you! Other options; I used Marcos Apartments** suitable for singles but very basic and with lots of steps. Is this an issue? 2 When is this property free? You want quiet and peaceful? Avoid August! 3 Once this is sorted find a flight. If you are not doing August this should be relatively easy as a single. You need to arrive before 14:00 to allow for delays. 4 You will need a taxi to transfer to Kamiros Skala for the ferry. Job done! * Zifos Travel site down? Again? I think there are details and phone numbers somewhere on this forum. ** Marcos Apartments maybe tricky but I think Yanni of Costas Bar is related and speaks English. I have a number for him on my Greek phone; not readily accessible at the moment! Anybody got the missing phone numbers?

Hi Terry, As Kinygos says a DIY project may well be your best bet. It might be worth going to www.greeklodgings.gr-apartments studios-chalki island apartments studios-chalki captains house-reservations. The owner Christinas email address is there should you wish to communicate. Get an early morning flight on a Wednesday with Easyjet or similar and there is a bus at 1400ish that goes from the top road, opposite the taverna, to Kamiros Scala. Hop on either of the ferries to Halki and pay on board. You can walk to Christinas but she may well meet you off of the ferry to show you the way. To return to Diagoras Airport get on the early morning ferry from Halki and the bus goes at 0730ish from the top of the road or arrange a taxi with Christina ( she will ring through for you) be warned however, they do not come cheap because they have to make an unpaid run from Diagoras to get you! Of course, if you have a late flight you will need to 'pad out' your waiting time at Diagoras. To be honest there is not much in the immediate vicinity of the airport(Paradissi) other than the very good taverna (Deipnos- English speaking)across the road from the airport. We use them every year prior to going to Kamiros Scala and on our return to the airport. If you use the bus or taxi from Diagoras to Kamiros Scala on Wednesdays you will arrive early in time for a very leisurely lunch at the harbourside taverna. Ferries leave around 1630-1700. One of the ferries waits for late-coming charter flights so may obviously leave later but I never remember which! Journey time to Halki about 1hr 20mins depending on sea conditions. Kinygos is the expert on this aspect. We do this ourselves every year so we know it works. The only problems occur when there are taxi and bus strikes. It happened once to us in nearly 20 years of travelling to Halki so we tend not to factor it in too much. However, it has to be said that Greece is a shade more unpredictable now than it was!! Worry not Terry. Plan and enjoy the laid-back ambiance of Halki.

Sorry two major omissions! I am assuming a Wednesday to Wednesday week. Why? Because everything is geared to that. The ferries leave at 16:00 to 17:00 on Wednesdays. Any other day and you have to be at Kamiros Skala at 14:30, and they may not be running then either! Accommodation tends to work on Wednesday to Wednesday as well. I forgot to mention my friend Christine at The Captain's House. You would be lucky to get in here as she is normally heavily booked in advance, hence I did not mention it originally! Other ferries are available doing day trips and you can use them, but they are a law unto themselves. You will only know if they are going on the day!

Well spotted Simon.....in my haste to be helpful I omitted to say that Christine could be heavily booked.
Tight lines.

Terry Most single travellers from the UK go with Olympic, not because they are any better, but just because they work out cheaper as the cost includes flights, transfers and accommodation. It is very easy to go independently however, it dose work out more expensive.

Hi Terry,
As ruffers says Olympic holidays are almost certainly going to be your cheapest option all in, however worth checking out are Nissia holidays who may have some late availability too and are very good although they will arrange everything with the exception of your flight.
Let us all know what if anything you have decided?
