I have written this and similar things in previous posts: "Every year people ask about ferry timetables. Greek ferry timetables can be calculated using a mathematical formula that I have quoted twice; this can be found elsewhere! (It relates to Schrödinger's cat) No local ferry to or from Halki can be confirmed until it is seen, at the departure port, casting off the mooring lines. (The probability wave function collapses!) Yet every year people ask. I look forward to the first inquiry like the first cuckoo of spring. Perhaps one year... Maybe not! Sorry, it's not very helpful, but that's the way it is, and always will be!" Today is Tuesday. On Tuesday there is a subsidised trip to Kamiros Skala at 06:00 and a return trip at 14:30. We know this because it is on the timetable. The sea was 3 - 4. The 06:00 ran. The 14:30 did notOf course this was extensively publicised. (Feel free to look up irony in the dictionary) PLEASE HEED THIS WARNING

To be fair they did put on Facebook that it wasn't running at 14.30 and was leaving instead at 17.30.

To be fair they did put on Facebook that it wasn't running at 14.30 and was leaving instead at 17.30. I am sure it was, but the person caught out does not do facebook! Further, is a notice on Facebook going to be definitive? All I am saying is, check everything yourself on the day and don't rely on the timetable. That said, a written notice at Kamiros Skala left in the morning would have been helpful!

Ok so has the wind dropped, will the people leaving tomorrow have a rough trip ? Just asking ;) X As above, today sea state 3-4 at Kamiros Skala and no ferry. It needs to be a 6 to stop N. Halki. Best you look on Facebook tomorrow! That was the point of my posting! Do not rely on the Timetable!

Ok so has the wind dropped, will the people leaving tomorrow have a rough trip ? Just asking ;) X OK Carol, this is Poseidon, NW 5 - 4 getting stronger if anything during the day. There will be a beam sea on the stretches not shielded by Alimnia. Advice: eat some crystallised ginger! My opinion? I would say, compared with what I saw yesterday, the wind is stronger. However The ferries will run because the sea state is <6 and they are chartered by Nissia and Olympic and have a guaranteed income! My opinion is not definitive! For days other than Wednesdays the 14:30 is always problematical on a purely economic basis when there is a day trip. It makes no sense to send a ferry over with a couple of people on it at 11:00 to pick up a couple of people and come back at 14:30. It makes far more sense in these straitened times to drop this return trip and do the scheduled trip at 17:30 after the day trippers have been dropped off. This decision throws the timetable out of the window, hence the reason for my original posting. If one was a tourist with no internet access in Rhodes town and took a taxi to Kamiros Skala in the hopes of getting the 14:30 ferry one would be perhaps a little upset. The same goes for a shopper leaving Halki at 06:00 and expecting to return at 14:30. Wednesdays are not governed by the above for the reasons already given. But it makes sense to check on the day, as my passenger yesterday should have done... and didn't! I am just trying to discourage the enquiries on this site as per my heading!

Simon with all respect here , why are you trying to discourage questions ? .. Yes to you it is the same question but to a person without your knowledge they may well be looking for information that could help them out of a situation .. If you are travelling and when you left the house the timetable said 2.30 then you would expect that .. If you don't do FB .. Then where else do you look em route ? I certainly wouldn't know .. So if a person stranded at Kamiros wishes to make an enquiry on here and someone deems to be helpful then there is no problem

It is the query long in advance that cannot be given a sensible answer. The timetables are on Facebook. I am saying, as you are, you have to ask on the day, and this information can be difficult to obtain. However on this site we have the phone numbers for the ferries ( they are also on Facebook) and these should be noted, and checked on the day before beginning the journey to Kamiros Skala. My passenger failed to do this. He should have known better!

I travelled from Rhodes to Kamiros about 5/6 years ago .. Even on the day of departure my 'tour operator contact ' was telling me there was no early ferry fortunately my contacts on here were telling me different so even a quick question on the day can help out Many people are nervous of ringing a Greek phone number ., or French Spanish whatever Your post seemed to be discouraging people to ask that was my point if you don't ask you don't learn and what is often the repetitive question that winds one person up may give the answer the other requires to sort a problem On the day or that Niggle in the back of your head for a first time traveller

Nothing to be nervous about! If you phone they will be nice to you. If you are in a hotel, you can get them to phone for you. You can also send a query on Facebook the day before, if such is your wish. Honestly they are nice people. Loukas Taverna and Althemenis Taverna are lovely, but you may not wish to sit there all afternoon!
Sorry I don't mean to discourage anybody.
Just saying Timetable plus phone on the day is the best way! Poseidon, Sailing forecast, Dodecanese, for the weather.
