Been living on Rhodes since April last year and love going over to Halki for frequent visits. Haven't been since late October and are chomping at the bit to go again. Does anyone happen to know when the ferries are back and forth from KS at this time of year? Been down there several times but never anyone around to ask! Thanks

Congratulations! You win the prize for 2015!
After this weekend, if Syriza win the General election and initiate Grexit, you may find ferries few and far between. Nobody can ever give you a definite timetable, and if all the subsidies go...
I do not know when you are going to Kamiros Skala, but IF they are running you will see them moored from 07:15/30 when they arrive until 14:30 when they return.
Do not pick a weekend or Wednesday, or Thursday!
Do not rely on them telling the truth!
Good luck!

Hi Kinygos,
Norwich is Sunny today but still 8 degrees!!!!!!!!!
We are due out to Halki in early July having 'missed out' last year..............what is your learned 'local'view on the possible Grexit disruption to the ferry system. We are told that tourism provides at least 20% of the nations GDP therefore surely a positive and expeditious answer to inter island travel is required from Syriza!!!

Hi Kinygos, Norwich is Sunny today but still 8 degrees!!!!!!!!! I can say with great assurance that nobody knows what the effect of Grexit would be, or even if it is possible. This does not stop journalists speculating, and the prime example given is Argentina. This is from the Guardian 13/05/2012:Abstract: “Argentina provides the template for a country that defied the doomsters and made a go of life after devaluation and default.” Now bear in mind the size of Argentina and its considerable natural resources and read this from National Public Relations 16/12/2014:Abstract: “The problem is inflation….. Which leads to scenes like this: I'm buying a ferry ticket inside Argentina and I'm being told I can't pay in pesos, I have to pay in dollars, or with my U.S. credit card.” Using Argentina as an example I think that, for the Greeks, it will be more than the ferries that they have to worry about. Let us say that Grexit occurs and they invent their own currency. A bank note is just a piece of paper. Its value is dependant on the solvency of the bank (Sterling - Bank of England) backing it up. Let us call the new currency the “Mickey Mouse”. Will Greece be able to buy oil on the international market with the MM? The Greeks will have to continue paying with hard currency. Therefore they will be taking euro from the tourists, or perhaps also Sterling & US Dollar. However the ATMs will only dispense MM. Before Greece went into the euro the Drachma had serious inflation. After Grexit the MM will have hyperinflation. Your concern for the local ferries should be unfounded as they are paid for by the tour company in your case. It will be the subsidised ferries for the locals that will be a problem. A subsidy paid in MM will be worth nothing. Tourist ferries will run, provided there is fuel! OK now to be very serious, there is no way that Greece can leave the euro so all the above is just not going to happen. Firstly there is no mechanism for a country to leave the euro. Secondly the Greeks don’t want to leave the euro because they have a good idea of the consequences. Cheer up!

Sudden thought! You are obviously out of the loop. I spend my winters in Norwich; November to April. I do know what the weather is in Norwich from personal experience!

Thanks for your erudite thoughts and analysis Kinygos. Yes we have been out of the loop after visiting Halki almost non stop for 19 years. Wild horses would not have kept us away last year but unfortunately it was more than wild horses!!!!!
Hope to catch up with you, Christina and Halki later this year.
