:'(Today is a very sad day for us in the fatcat household, this morning after a very short illness our beloved cat of 14 years was peacefully put to sleep. A few days ago we noticed a large lump on her shoulder and at the vets it was diagnosed as Fibrosarcoma, a malignant form of feline cancer – that was yesterday, so this morning we went back to have some xrays and other checks done but after discussions with the vet it was very obvious that she was not going to get better and she was starting to shows signs of discomfort. So it was decided to let her go, so this morning with her in my arms she slipped quietly and peacefully away. We are both devasted, she was very much a part of our lives.

Fatcat, I am so sorry, we had to have our much loved Thomas who was 18 put to sleep 6 weeks before our holiday and it is heartbreaking, they are such a big part of our lives but you must know you have done the right thing. My advice would be to do as we have done and get another cat soon, our house was so empty before William and Smokey arrived, nobody will replace Tom to us but these two have certainly made us smile again. xx

I'm so sorry for you and your family. My last cat, Keith, died in my arms aged 17, just two years ago and I cried for days.
We couldn't face going through the same thing again so said we'd never have another cat. The next day Craig turned up and he's still with us.
Lots of hugs to you both.

Thanks all for your nice posts and thoughts, we are just both not looking forward to going home tonight, we normally look forward to going home and saying hello to Hollie, making a fuss of her, her on our laps and sleeping on our bed, without her it will be very hard. They get under our skin and worm their way into our lives and before you know it they are part of you.
Tonight will be tearful and we will be lost about what to do, we know we did the right thing, but it does not make it any easier.
She will be sorely missed.

Fatcat ...you're in our thoughts ..to let a beloved pet go is the most hearbreaking decision to make and although you know it is the right thing to do it still tears you apart I am a firm believer in 'better a day too early , than a minute too late ' ..it is the final dignity and respect we can show our pets hugs to you and yours xx

Sorry been offline....So sorry to hear your very sad news Fatcat. It is just like losing a close friend or family member. It was the 3rd year anniversary of losing our previous dog on the 4 Nov and it was awful. Hope that you and Mrs Fatcat feel a little brighter soon though we know it's not easy. Thinking of you.

We too had to have a much loved old fella PTS on Nov 3rd
Eric was the last of three beautiful tabby's I had on our silver wedding anniversary and finally I too had to make the very sad to decision to let him go peacefully.
He is now with his sister Charlie and his brother Dexter at the Rainbow Bridge free from all pain and suffering.
So although we still have 4 cats and two dogs to keep us company I know how you must be feeling

As our cat was so much a part of our lives together (we have been married 15 years and Hollie was with us for 14 of those years) we have decided to write a book about her, really her story from when we picked her up at the cat rescue to us losing her last week. There is an internet site called ‘Blurb’ which you can create a quality book (hard or soft back) and download pictures and write a book as have a nice memory of her. They cost upwards of £28 but we just want to create something special for a loving cat that gave so much in her life – to us. The house is so empty and cold without her.

That is such a lovely thing to do Fatcat, it may also help you to get over your loss.

That's a fantastic idea Fatcat.
Daisy - so sorry to hear your sad news. Do hope that it has not effected the other members of your menagerie, it can really effect other pets sometimes.
Love to all.
