We went to the races at Hereford on Sunday and saw a house completely decorated ready for Christmas, lights, inflatable snowmen, the lot

We ate out last weekend and the restaurant reception area was already decorated for Christmas but fortunately not the restaurant proper. I must confess I am rather surprised that my Mum hasn't started quizzing me over what we are doing for Christmas yet ;D

My mum used to start in August or September! No need now though - she always comes to us. I have to say I was a little disappointed as last year she suggested we went out this year(her treat) but she seems to have forgotten and asked if I'd cook a pheasant this year. Oh well .....
I'm ashamed to say that last year's wreath from the front door is still in the back yard. I was finally going to do something with it the other day but Harry thought it would be a shame after all this time. He suggested it might be the start of a new tradition along the lines of :- the old wreath has to greet the new one before we can throw it away!

Amanda, you are not alone. We've still got the Christmas tree from 2 years ago in the corner of the back yard. We decided that rather than fill the car with pine needles taking it to the recycling "dump", we'd cut some branches off it each week and stick em in the wheelie bin (not very green I know, but it's difficult getting a 7 1/2 foot Christmas tree in a Yaris ) Suffice to say we lost interest. It looks rather strange (might enter it for the Turner Prize next year) but believe it or not, it's still got some needles on it ;D Have just ordered an artificial one off ebay

we still have Christmas lights along the front of our house (too high to reach without us getting the ladder out!)And way too much effort. Its been 3 years now..........but we dont switch them on, that would probably be stupid..........

LOL ...our lights from last year have just come down in the wind ....but I've still got the hook on the door for the wreath Lynn you can get some lovely wreaths for inside the house - I got a lovely one last year from Asda and it goes on the wall over the fireplace

I think Lynn could be struggling for the fireplace too at the moment! But next year ......

Actually I lied yesterday........we do have a front door and you can lock it. The fact that you can walk into the house on either side of it doesn't really count I guess, and it would look strange with a wreath on it. As for a fireplace....... I'm still holding out a small glimmer of hope that we will be in the house by Christmas although it is now extremely unlikely that we will have any floor covering down in most of it but I might be able to cook Christmas dinner in the house and then we can all eat it in the caravan...... Enough - I want to be in Halki

Amanda...why does it not surprise me that Harry suggested that, bless him. No doubt John and I will have the usual 'discussion' over the cost of a real tree! We ate out last night and yhe table at the side of us had crackers and mince pies!

I am thinking we will not be able to put a tree up indoors at all this year, goodness knows what our two new cats would do to it, climb it and get all the decorations off it would be my guess !!

Carol, I remember coming down one Christmas and trying to figure out why the tree looked different . On closer inspection, we found that there were loads of bits of gold chord hanging over the branches which was all that was left of the twenty or so chocolate decorations which the dog had eaten (foil and all ) during the night Still don't know how she managed it without pulling the tree over

All this talk of trees, I have to tell you a true story.
Our old cat Jasper took a liking to some tree tinsel, thoses very thin strips of red/gold etc. Well, she was always playing with the stuff and one day I noticed as she walked away from us, she had a bit of tinsel hanging from her bum.............................
ENOUGH ;D
