Hi everyone I'm back to as for help again as you were all so helpful:-) I'm now looking at kaliopi snd Dorothea. I will be in a 1/2 person studio in either but would like the one with more outside sun space? Also Dorothea does not say the distance to the harbour for a swim or the distance to pandamos beach. Does anyone know? They both sound lovely:-) Thanks Tamsin xx

Tamsin - Dorothea is, judging from the image, about 3 tiers up from the harbour front in a central position. The clock tower next close to the original Governor's House, now Town Hall, is in left of shot. Can't swim in the harbour close to where you'd come down to the water front (roughly in the vicinity of Maria's/Demetri's bakery. Would have to walk along the water front about a 100yds to just beyond the yacht moorings on the pontoons say 10 mins. Should get sun from 06.30 until about 15.00, may be later as the aspect is east facing. Pondamos would be about 2 or 3 minutes further from the front door as the accessible area of the harbour.
Kaliopi is a bit further up the slope it would seem. The detail provided of the outside of the building is not very good on first viewing (and after a couple bottles of red wine) such that it doesn't get the light bulb moment the other place you were looking at did.
Others might have a better idea of the locations, especially the latter one.

This trip (16 nights and counting) will be our 9th year running and 10th overall (our no of times on Halki is modest compared to some).
I wander the back alleys and off beat areas with a camera regularly, so have a pretty good record, both physical and mental, of the views and the more interesting old buildings/ruins.
Now had a run through my 2012 images which have the highest concentration of these in one area and couldn't find anything which looks like it may include a some view of either of these buildings. Not sure now the main view with the clock tower is relevant to the location of Dorothea - the shot with the tree in the open area in front of the building is not unlike an area above the main church, same general level as indicated but on south facing slope rather than the east as I'd first thought. The access comment would support this also. Doesn't change the swimming comment, just slightly shorter distance to get beyond the working area of the harbour.

I'm not sure which floor I'm on but I did fine someone on trip advisor who stayed in appartmrnt 1 last week think I'm in 3 as it says side sea view? It also says all of them have balconys though. Anyway thanks again for all your help. Tamsin

No worries. Expect you'll meet my wife swimming up towards the yacht pontoon if you're there for a second week. Usually does that most mornings, assuming her swimming companion's knees are up to it! Personally I don't do water.

The locals and fellow holiday makers are lovely, always helpful and friendly but never intrusive you will love it

Hi Tams - I've been going to Halki on my own for 14 years - twice a year. Don't be nervous about it, the people are the friendliest people you will ever meet. All the tavernas are good - enjoy!

I have stayed in Dorothea upstairs with a side view of sea, but quite a few years ago now..Sounds similar to the one you booked. October walking jaunt.. Its a nice place, old style but very big and airy. Its quite easy to walk 100 yds or so to nearest point to safely swim in the harbour. And to stagger back to late at night..

Tamsin - There are a total of 6 apartments at the Dorothea, only 2 are available for a single occupation both are on the top floor, you will be in No.4 if you have a side sea view. I would advise that you take a torch to assist you on your return in the evening. Enjoy your holiday
