Great I'm very excited although not entirely sure which studio think 3 though. It's not clear on olympic and they don't seem to know anything. I'm very excited although nervous coming all on my own. Do you know if there is wifi anywhere as I'm worried there may not be service on my phone to keep in touch with my daughter. Should I bring phone cards for the public phone? And this may be a silly question but beach towels do I bring my own or do they mind if you take them from the villas I'm trying to cut down on my minimal bagsgr allowance lol Tamsin

Wi fi is available in most of the bars on the harbour, definitely the Piazza bar, Theodossias and Apostolis, the first two are next to each other on the left as you look from the sea and Apostolis is far right, I expect Costas also has wi fi that is to the left of Apostolis, they will just give you a password, it is also available at Ftenagia beach. I am with O2 and don't have any problem using my mobile while I am there, someone else may say different but it is many years since we used phone cards. I would either bring your own beach towels or buy them there, two of the shops sell the thin velour type that wash and dry really easily and are reasonably priced, I think they might take a dim view if you use the towels from the apartment as they are usually white and will get fairly grubby on the beach.

Several of the bars along the harbour side have wifi - able to plug in my laptop at Apostolis' and watch the British Lions last year with a (cold) pint in hand.

Wonderfull:-) it just sounds so remote I wasn't sure about service. I'm on 02 also. I can make calls chilling on the harbour. Sounds like heaven:-) I thought that might be the case with the towels but had to ask lol. Thank you both for even more help. I will probably be pestering with more questions befor my visit. Tamsin

Hi,
We just got back yesterday from two weeks in the Villa Elena which is in the same building as the studio. The studio looks quite small and if you can see the harbour at all from the balcony you won't see much of it - there's a fairly big tree and a building but you can probably see between them. Seems to be used mostly for short term stays.
The Villa is fine and has three balconies - one from the living room on the same level as the studio which dosn't have much of a view and one on each bedroom upstairs with good views - ideal for doing Noel Coward impressions - "Extraordinary how potent cheap music is. [ Sings, badly] Someday I'll find you - Sneak up behind you ...".
A few minutes away from custard pies if your knees work, and closer to the harbour via steps.

How evocative. Brings back memories of those old films worth remembering starring Dame Celia Molestrangler and 'ageing juvenile' Binkie Huckaback.
Who could forget the dialogue: Charles: "I know." Fiona: "I know you know." Charles: "I know you know I know." Fiona: "Yes, I know."

Tamsin
I downloaded "whats app" before I went away to save on the cost of sending texts. If you are in a wifi zone (and connected) you can send texts including sending media content free because it uses the internet, rather than your 3G connection (or something like that) provided the person you are sending also has it on their phone. I found that when I downloaded it it automatically updated my contacts list so I knew who had "whats app". I'm not very technical so there are probably people who can explain it a lot better, or there are a couple of articles on google. It's worth checking out tho'.

I didn't send any text messages whilst on Halki - emails from the phone whilst connected to a wifi are free.
Returning to the original thread - The Elena Studio, is of a high standard with full cooker, fridge freezer and air con, a fairly small balcony with a tree partially obstructing the view to the Harbour - but certainly worth booking.

Tams, I read this thread without contributing as I couldn't help with your accommodation queries. It's interesting to have your feedback, as sometimes questions get answered on this forum and then it's difficult to know what happened afterwards, so thank you for taking the time to do that. As you discovered, there's a lot of information around in the ether, ranging from Stevec's amazingly comprehensive collection of photos to Kinygos's intellectual and literary guidance. I'm sure everyone who contributed will be glad to know you enjoyed your holiday; I think it was during late July or early August. (Probably about the hottest time of the year - I was there in early July and it was beginning to get a bit too hot for me!)
