"Bay on the other side of the island" That's the second beach of Dhio Ghali. Getting used to seeing that one! It's the capes (Bits of rock) that all look much the same!

We knew you would know what that was called, it was on the one and only trip round the island that we went on, plenty of people were being sick !!!!!! The reason You haven't seen it again is because we haven't gone round. We haven't gone round because I don't want to make people sick, and because unless it is calm enough we can't fish! One day Cinderella will go to the ball! This is the problem with booking trips on a certain day to places. When you come with us we only go where it is comfortable. (Other than getting uncomfortable struggling with tuna!) Perhaps I should text you with "It's round the island today" and you just turn up. (If you bring Graeme you will have to behave yourself!) The only snag is these trips are getting a bit popular and I don't want more than five on the boat. Here's to 2014.

Cinderella will come to the ball when you text her, unlikely Graeme will join us on that trip as he remembers how bouncy it was on the Nikos Express, looking forward to September 2014 already.

Just to be clear about something Carol already knows. Usually we go clockwise past Trachea, sometimes we go anticlockwise past AretaSome days we know we can't get round, others we think we might and decide when we get to Cape Mirtos (Clockwise) or Kalamiotis (Anticlockwise). Always, if there is any doubt, we turn back. This is based on comfort, a level well below frightening! This is a bit off subject but recently my scanner packed up and I decided to buy an Epson V730 from PC World reduced to £90. It will scan slides and negatives as well as documents. I have a load of those tiny 110 negatives. It scans them although they do not fit in the holder. They come out at 6 - 8 MB. OK they are not the world's best photographic medium and I can see Graeme's toes curling at the mention of 110 film, but this scanner looks like getting back some old memories. Why not scan the prints? They have deteriorated over time and the colours are no longer true. That is why I want to re-do them, and preserve them on a more permanent digital medium. Anyhow this may be of interest to someone.

Kinygos - if you have a lot of old film and slides to scan, worth investing in a rocket blower to get any surface dust off and for greasy finger marks etc, PEC-12. Quite expensive but it removes muck from film without damaging the emulsions. Rocket blowers are inexpensive. There are also blower brushes - a small rocket blower with soft bush which I find are better at shifting the odd stray hair.

Anyhow this may be of interest to someone. It is of interest to me as I am currently placing literally thousands of photographs, slides and negatives on edited disks. I am using an Epson Perfection V350 Photo and have found it to be excellent. I have not yet got round to the pile of tiny negatives like you mention above but will be interested to see how they scan as they do not indeed fit in the holder. I use my very fine pair of lungs to blow the dust off for free and to date have no issues with that.

"I have not yet got round to the pile of tiny negatives like you mention above but will be interested to see how they scan as they do not indeed fit in the holder."
I found that you cannot do a bulk scan as the colours do not come right until you get the mask right. It is best to preview on negative scan. Then look at the complete scan. Select an image. Zoom in. Adjust the mask until the colours come right. and scan. You then go back to the complete scan and move the mask and repeat. Do the scan on maximum resolution. Finish off with Photoshop later. It is slow, but if you do it right you only do it once!
The problem I find is dating the pictures!
"I use my very fine pair of lungs to blow the dust off for free and to date have no issues with that." Now you take care! No spitting! Tighten lips to keep the dentures in! Don't forget to clench...
I'll get my coat!!!

Well, having scanned in close to 9000 slides, believe you me lungs Mk I may seem good but when you start to look at the images at anything like close up (i.e. 1:1) then you'll appreciate how much crud eyeball Mk I doesn't spot. If you have kept you slides well, then you may not have too many figure marks (or worse) on them. Film negatives are usually the worst protected and most likely to be damaged or have finger prints on them.
Agree - always do a preview, set the scan area to the net image area (slides scans usually include the holder as a black border) and be prepared to abort to clean the slide/negative before resuming. It's a long process - if all goes well, I can scan, record and contact proof print a roll in about 2 hours - or an evening. I've got a Nikon Coolscan V scanner - dedicated to film or slide. Flat bed scanners with adapters are a OK but always a compromise.
Dating film images is the most challenging - slides often have a process date stamped on the holder which does at least give some hint as to the probable year.

Whatever floats your boat as they say. I'm highly delighted with my scanner, my lungs and all the results so far. Gone well over the 10,000 mark and reckon I'm about half way. Dating - who cares. Within a couple of years does me and if I can't figure out the date then that is the problem of those that pick up the pieces when I'm discussing the price of beer with St.Peter. If I dig too far back into my Greek pictures it only makes me feel old!!! Other things to think about - like dentures! Happy scanning.

stevec, thanks for the tip about PEC-12. At present I have film in plastic sleeves which is pretty good protection, but I have a stack in paper sleeves and they will be dusty. I shifted them to Greece when I let my UK place out. I will bring them back and set to work on them November 2014 on.
Unfortunately your £700+ scanner I cannot justify and it will not deal with these horrid little 110 negatives. The postal develop and print service I used back in the early 70s has taken its toll in terms of scratches too which PEC-12 cannot fix. I am just going to do the best I can with what I have. Thank you Photoshop!
What a joy digital photography is for us happy snappers today! My waterproof Cannon Power Shot D10 is ideal for my needs, and date stamps the pictures too!
I spend my money on specialised fishing tackle and boats instead. You would wince if you knew what my #2 outfit of Sage fly rod, Loop reel and Lee Wulff line cost! (and "it's not a man's rod" either, according to Percy!)
