Sadly modern risk aversion/management got the better of it. An adult approach with everyone signing a 'blood chit' might have kept it going for the last few years of Laskarina's life. Lack of any quay to get a boat tied up to makes any revival very unlikely. Mind you, after the EU grant for the Kania new port construction, a doggy business case could be put together for one to be built. I'll look after the on-site project management - qualified surveyor with time on my hands and a very reasonable day rate!

Regarding "on site project management" by a "qualified surveyor", just where do you think you are? You already mentioned Kania! I take a risk offering to take people fishing but since it is free and not a commercial enterprise, and I do have safety equipment, I hope I am OK. However in 2013 I did have a large gentleman enthusiastically grab a rod, strike, and fall over backwards. It gave me cause to think. Such things happen so quickly. I worried about him, not that I thought he would sue, but because he was a chum who could have cracked his head on a metal fitting with untold consequences. As it was he carried on fighting the fish on his back! I would not be too hard on the likes of Laskarina and Nissia for not doing the BBQ. There are those who drink to much, injure themselves, and look for someone to blame; not that anyone ever drank too much at the BBQ! Can you imagine if someone trod on a weever in the shallow water of that sandy beach? What about wheelchair access?
... and on and on... Besides there are those with their own boats who like to get away from it all (that's you lot!) and go to Alimnia for that purpose. Not me I hasten to add!

I love your photos....thanks. It's interesting to see how Halki was over 20 years ago. I prefer the Post Office white...it blends in nicely! All your pictures have a sense of tranquility about them.

It is lovely to see those photos Simon, apart from the Alimnia trips I also miss being able to sit and eat right on the edge of the harbour with the sea within touching distance, Babis was always a favourite when Kiki was working there in the days of the old ice house. All this has inspired us to get in the loft today and search out more of our old photos

I seem to remember being told that it was down to health and safety, there had to be room for access if there was ever an emergency, but someone else may know a different reason,
