Yes Skiathos is one of the shortest and plane nearly gets its nose wet before stopping lol enjoy

It is ! ..I think on the way in ignorance is bliss ...on the way out however is a different matter ..we left our luggage on a grass verge and were called to line up as the flight landed ...well scarey

Yes agree, never again for me sadly, watching the planes take off from the taverna across the road was terrifying

We are having another week in Tilos this year before our two weeks in Halki, we love both islands, they are so close to each other but quite different

Having left on that cliffhanger I did finally make a decision. There was a long hard look at Kalymnos but was put off by some negatives blog comments about there being a lot of traffic. In the end I realised that Tilos really did deserve an extended return visit after my two day trips from Halki. I haven't stayed on Tilos since being one of the final season Laskarina guests back in 2006 and my photography on Tilos has been limited to Livadia harbour and the two ruined villages of Mikro Chorio and Gera so I'm looking forward to getting out and walking the island during my 9 day stay. The only downside I have to contend with is that I'm booked on the Dodek Express so arrive at and leave Halki twice during this trip and I'm fully expecting a bit of a moment as we power away from the island! However, it's a new adventure to be positive about....

I know some people like to hear the logistics behind peoples trips as inspiration for what is possible so here's how it worked for me. Accommodation (the well reviewed Apollo Studios in Livadia) and British Airways flights were booked together on Expedia. Monday lunchtime flight out and late night Thursday (the following week) home. Should hit Rhodes early evening then public bus into Rhodes Town. Short walk from bus stop to the Domus Rodos hotel for one night ( separate Expedia booking) then short walk to Kolona quay in the morning to collect Dodek tickets (booked direct on their website) before boarding the 8.30 Express. Coming back it's the 16.30 Express out of Tilos then bus back to airport for late flight. Anticipate a bit of time at Gatwick on Friday morning waiting for the first train back to Hastings. What could possibly go wrong? 


To everyone going to Halki this year have a great time (I'll certainly be back in the future) and if you're on the harbour this Tuesday look out for the man on the Express with the "what have I done?" expression as we head away. Regards, David.

Hi David, have a great time, we really like Tilos and will be returning for a week at the end of August staying at Eleni Beach Hotel, our third visit, I know exactly what you mean about the catamaran pulling away from Halki, it is a very strange feeling especially when you see people you know on the harbour !! Luckily we will be alighting in Halki the following week but then I feel sad at leaving Tilos and happy to be in Halki, we are never happy Anyway have a great time and let us know how you get on.
