We had a day trip to Tilos today. Lovely place. We only stayed around where the boat comes in. Had a swim, had a beer, had a meal. We really enjoyed it.

We did a day trip a few years ago and thought it was lovely, we went up into the old village which was very quaint and very blue and white and then found a super rooftop bar looking out to sea before getting the ferry home, really enjoyed it and would consider it for a holiday sometime

So i take it dizzy8 that there is a reasonable time on Tilos and does the ferry go from Halki? First time i went to Symi was on a 'day' trip and there was only just enough time to go along the harbour, have a quick snack then back on the boat!!!! Sounds as if we will do a trip as you and Carol both seem thumbs up on it.

Years ago John and I went to Tilos for a day trip with Laskarina and loved it. Once there we went by coach to the dwarf elephant museum in the old town Mikro Horio and then on up to the Monastry of Agios Pandeleimonas which was amazing. Back at Livadia we had the most delicious chickpea fritters ever! The following year we went back for 2 weeks staying at Livadia Beach Appts which we enjoyed. Saw a Bonelli's eagle, but we haven't been back since. Also spent 2 weeks on Lipsi. Halki though is our favourite and nowhere else comes close!

Love it, love it, love it, been three times in the last four years and already booked for next August (fantastic apartment right on the front with a 60 sq metre veranda ) Most of the people we've met over the years have been Danes, who must be amongst the friendliest people on earth. There is a website www.tilostravel.co.uk with a link to a facebook page if anyone's interested.

Gilly, just seen that you've been to Lipsi as well. We were there in May/June this year. Lovely little place, enjoyable but it was still to all intents and purposes "shut" when we went

We went a couple of years ago on the trip to Tilos. my OH liked it but I didn,t I was put off before I put my feet on the harbour. When the Cat . came in to the harbour I was disappointed to see so many biggish concrete apartment blocks,OK it was quite nice to wander about but to me was just an island had no special feel unlike Halki.

Sure it was Tilos you went to I take it the "biggish concrete apartment blocks" you saw was the Ilidi Rocks, a series of apartments built across the rocks (hence the name)at the far end of the bay. It's only two storeys high, hardly Benidorm It's a shame you didn't stay overnight as it tends to be very quiet during the day, however at night, the atmosphere, especially in the square is magical and very Greek. Probably my favourite island

Yes I know they not big apartment blocks but really wanted to see much the same as Halki it just was not there .OK you got advantage of staying and seeing it at night and you have enjoyed so thats great, maybe I would have liked the nightlife but only commented on how I felt about it on day trip from Halki.Heh my next holiday is Corfu in a weeks time so expect to see a few apartment blocks there too although not going to one of the big tourist resorts going to Liapades for three weeks of course Halki already booked for 2014 lol

We've got Halki booked for next May/June then Tilos next August (wishing my life away here). I understand what you say about Tilos, and of course, different people like different places, I just get very defensive about it. I must admit, the first time we went and saw the Ilidi Rocks (or Idle Rocks as we call it) we thought "wot the 'ell's that"? but I must admit, it does grow on you, and looks quite pretty from the opposite side of the bay. One of the guide books (can't remember which one) referred to Livadia, the Port, as the "wild west" . Anyway, off to Alonissos tomorrow, so better go and finish packing

Thanks Carol. If the BBC have got the forecast right we'll be landing on one of the shortest runways in Europe in the middle of a thunderstorm Could be interesting
