Just returned from a fortnight on Lesvos. As it's the third largest of the Greek islands it was very different from Halki but very beautiful. We stayed in Molyvos - or Mithymna - right up by the castle so we had a fabulous view (and a great apartment!). Walking up through the old agora at any time was interesting but amazing at night. We hired a car and spent most of our beach time at Anaxos (found a good beach bar that sold draught Mythos) and went to the thermal springs at Eftalou. I don't want to sound like a travel guide so I'll leave it there. The only down side is the transfer from Mytilene airport; it's a long way and it isn't exactly motorway. It's worth a visit if you can tear yourself away from Halki. The scenery is amazing and so varied. Back to halki next year! Can't wait.

Morgana, we went to Lesvos some years ago HBH (Holidays Before Halki) and had a good time, we also stayed at Molyvos and have very happy memories of the thermal baths.
I would not mind going back there although my vote would be to return to the Mani Peninsula (fly to Kalamata).

We had a fabulous holiday on Lesbos some years ago. We stayed in Sigri, as far from Mytilene as you can get. It's known as "the end of the road" and it's a very long road at that! Across the island, through the mountains. But well worth it. Very quiet - a smaller village than Halki with fewer tavernas and access to some beautiful beaches. Surprisingly for such a small place there is a fantastic museum there, because of the petrified forest in the area. I don't know what Sigri is like now but can't imagine it being much bigger, given it's distance from the airport.

We didn't actually go down into Sigri, just looked down on it after we'd visited the Petrified Forest Museum. It looked very welcoming - not at all hectic or crowded. We had thought of going back there for a day but, as on most of our holidays, pure idleness prevented us! That could be the'hook' to get us back there. Come to think of it I wouldn't mind another visit to the Mani. There are so many places there we didn't visit. Two holidays booked for next year (one to Halki) so unless we win the lottery I'll just have to dream.

Yes loved Finikounda, the drive down through spectacular scenery was great and it was my choice for vacation on a big birthday holiday year that was of course pre Halki days ,, Halki now is always second holiday booked for the year always end of May, first of year is Turkey for month in March lol,, so now planning September 2014 which will between Fini,Symi and Liapades on Corfu (going there for three weeks beginning of September),, then might go to Spain in November all going well..Thats only advantage of being a crinkly can pick and choose dates and get good deals lol

i dont think you would find sigri has changed much amanda, we were there 2 years ago still only a couple of tavernas, a small castle and the petrified forest museum. the tour companies no longer go there and building work seemed to have ground to a halt. we wandered round and hardly saw a soul.
