Pretty sure not spelt right above but wandered if anyone has ever ventured from Halki for a few days, anywhere other than Tilos? We have had Karpathos recommended to us by a few people now. We always say we will go elsewhere but never quite make it. Did enjoy our 6 days in Symi last year but of course we knew that we were then on the way to Halki.

Lisa, I think you mean Kastellorizo! (But Kallistorizzo is near enough, give or take some Lidl's retsina). Have been there twice, but many years ago (about 15 I think). It used to be 7 hours ferry from Rhodes, or in theory a flight on an Olympic skyvan - I say "in theory" because it was very difficult to book a flight reliably. Supplies of things like food items were also sometimes limited because of distance from the rest of Greece. All this has no doubt changed now. I think it's also now possible to visit Kas by a local short ferry trip from Kastellorizo; this used to be forbidden or had to be done in secret. There were lots of ruined properties, one hotel and some other places to stay. Could perhaps tell you more in Halki in late September? But someone with more recent experience could give you more up to date info.
From a transport viewpoint I think Karpathos would be easier to combine with Halki, if you could work the ferries right.

Lisa, here's a nice little website compiled by some folk who clearly like Kastellorizo. www.kastellorizo.de/JtB

I haven't been to Kastellorizo, however I do no Karpathos quite well. Out of the two islands Karpathos will be the busier, lots to see and do if you have transport, but not commercial and not many Brits. It has some beautiful beaches and you can still local women wearing the national costume.
