I have stated on the beach board that we have not visited Halki for a couple of years due to family commitments. We are returning in July and Lisa's update then was very welcome.
I note that she commented that ferries on a Wednesday were all later than 0600 which used to be the departing time from Halki. Presumably then, these are the new timings.
40 euros from Paradisi. Not surprised, fuel prices affect every economy. Let me guess, 70 euros return from KS on a pre-ordered taxi!!!
The sun is shining in Norwich today Simon(Kinygos)!

September and our first visit to Halki grows ever nearer and the mid 20c is getting us nicely bronzed before arrival. Can anyone please tell me where the ferry for Halki leaves? What time is the ferry on a Thursday? Good and reasonable hotel near the ferry point as no way are we spending the night in Falaraki as we had to on a trip to Symi? We usually travel independently but the Olympic deal to Halki was too good to pass up on. However from past experience with Olympic they do seem to pick the dirtiest and grottiest hotels in Falaraki to put overnighters up in and we honestly couldn't bear the trauma again. Still come out in cold sweats and start scratching even thinking about it!!!! All suggestions very welcome.

Replying to myself here - just done my own research. Kamiros Scala a good bit from the airport so can anyone now help with accomodation at Kamiros Scala? We could get the 9:30 a.m. from KS on the 5 and that would mean cutting out a day in Rhodes and so give us longer on Halki. Also is there anyone out there that would be doing the same as us and trying to get to Halki more quickly and who would be interested in sharing a taxi - we get in late from Glasgow on the 4 September - about 11:30p.m. Tall order i know but hey don't ask - don't get. Finally - am i right in reading the taxi would be round the 50 euro mark?

Hi Snoopy, the ferry for Halki leaves from Kamiros Scala, roughly half an hour from the airport in a taxi, taxi rank is opposite departures, fare seems to be 40 euros. The Fedon leaves at 9.15 am and will get you there in about an hour, there will be other ferries going across during the day but I am assuming you will want to get the first one. We have booked to stay at the Liros which is just up the road from the harbour at KS, we haven't stayed there before but friends have and were very happy with it, tel no +302246031264 or www.liros.gr. What date are you going in September ? We may see you there Hope this is of some help, ask away if you need to know anything else.

Hi Snoopy, it is Carol not Liz !! Try putting your taxi request on the taxi and transfer page, you may get someone on the same or similar flight looking there, won't you get an Olympic transfer from KS to the airport on the way back ? We will no doubt see you there, we arrive on the 1st Sept and leave on the 18th

Mea culp. mea culpa - sorry Carol. Yes will do the Olympic return just don't want the horrendous experience we had previously when we were sent to the most filthy hotel in Falaraki - or even the world!! Also holiday time is precious and neither my daughter or myself want to hang about Rhodes until mid-afternoon when we can be on the beach by mid-day making our own way to Halki. Phoned Olympic this afternoon and it is a waste of time - couldn't say which ferry nor would they commit to accomodation so will travel independently once we land in Rhodes. Yes will put out a taxi share request - thanks for all your help and will look forward to meeting you. p.s. Have sent off an email re accomodation at KS so hopefully all falling in to place.

I think you are doing the right thing, cannot imagine being put in Faliraki when all you want to do is get to Halki We go independently and will not be landing until 8.30pm on the 31/8 so the Liros is ideal and the Fedon at 9.15 am will get us to Halki by 10am, I reckon we will be at Ftenagia ( probably in the bar ) by 11.30 !!! See you there

I remember being phased the first time i travelled to Symi independently. Brought me out in the same sweat i am in now!!! Now been told by another source that i can get a ferry at 09:00 from Kollona and be in Halki by 10:20a.m. This would save a journey through to KS. Pretty reliable source and have asked them to double check. Is it ringing any bells with you!! It would of course be cheaper and more convenient to get a hotel in Rhodes near Kollona. Covering all bases at the moment and have emailed the Liros. meantime will get on to the ferry sites and see if i can track down more info for myself. And yes will see you and will put up large mataxas to celebrate even getting to Halki!!

Sorry, I can't help with that one, we have always travelled via Kamiros Scala, normally on Weds when the majority of British visitors travel and then all 3 of the ferries are used at varying times, until the Fedon came along there would probably not have been a ferry until 2.30pm unless there was a day trip boat late morning. Good luck however you get there

Thanks again Carol - have checked and doulbe checked and there is a Dodekonisos Seaways that goes from Kollona 9:00am on Thursday 5. 34:50 euros for two of us so not bad and gets into Halki at 10:20am Now just have to fix up a hotel in Rhodes as close to the harbour area as possible and that should be us. I will hope the Olympic bus/minibus/donkey and cart!! will drop us in Rhodes from the airport (or is that wishful thinking?)

Well to put a different slant on things when we missed the Wednesday ferry due to flight delays and travelling with Olympic we were put overnight in Cassandra hotel in Ixia over night,Glasgow guests arrived too and we all went on ferry on Thursday afternoon you will be going to Cassandra anyway on your return journey.Yes we were also put up in Faliraki but that again was a Symi holiday. In the Cassandra one time we got a great two bed apartment and another time just normal apartment but disturbed sleep due to three drunken English women gosh they made some noise .I could not complain about cleanliness of hotel. The last time we were there overnight was two years ago but we had few hours there on our return this year from Halki and public areas were sparkling

I would go along with that Carol - it is good to know that Olympic can get it right. However after a lot of thought and research daughter and myself have decided we will make our own way to Halki once off the plane. We will book a room in Sylvia hotel - have checked how close it is to Kallona - very close and have triple checked the Dodkonisos Seaway and it does leave at 09:00am and gets to Halki at 10:30 a.m. That adds almost a day to our holiday rather than losing almost a day. Daughter is in a high pressure job and after our first encounter with Olympic and Falaraki swore we would never go through that again. Peace of mind is worth the extra it will put on our hol.
