Have just managed to find this site, having been told about it by Rod and Jackie on Halki last week. Well done all involved in setting it up.
Quite a while ago (on the HV site) I suggested that it was possible to go to Halki with hand baggage only. Someone, can't remember who, said I must be 'avin' a larf. So just to prove it possible, we did it! Three of us (including wife and adult daughter both with normal clothing, toiletries etc requirements) went for a week from 17 Sept within TC's strict hand baggage allowance (give or take a few centimetres and a gram or two).
The theory was we would waltz through Rhodes airport after leaving the 0750 LGW flight and be in Loukas taverna at KS before most had got their bags from the carousel. A threeand a half hour delay at LGW (waiting in frustration while the 10.05 departed on time!) put paid to that idea.
But it proves it can be done - just be strict on the stuff you don't really need.

5Kg..... Our snorkling stuff comes to more than that - and there's Mrs FC's wardrobe to consider.... fair play if you can do it.

The only significant thing I left behind on return was a pair of old sandals, which had suffered terminally in a thunderstorm - and their weight was replaced anyway by other things like a container of Greek salt (I know, you can probably get it in Sainsburys but it's not the same somehow). Items such as toothpaste are surprisingly heavy and quantity has to be limited. Swimming towels were deliberately old, rather thin ones, and so lighter weight than most large towels. Heavy items such as electric razor were in pockets as much as possible (at least for check-in!).
Wife and daughter used holdall-shaped cotton-canvas DKNY nags which were a centimetre or two over TC's 43 cm length limit but passed at check-in. I used a nylon-fabric briefcase-shaped bag. On way out, bags were not weighed. On way back, bags were weighed at Diagoras and 3 bags totalled 15.4 kgs. (A smallish tote bag over my shoulder was not queried - guess where the heavy items were!)
I suppose one factor which helped is that we are so lazy that we don't need much equipment - three paperbacks were in the bags and it took me most of the week to do the Times crossword in newspaper bought at Gatwick.
Anyway, it can be done - but I'm not sure that we could manage any longer than a week with hand baggage only.
I've tried to attach a photo of a DKNY bag but unsuccessful - tried drag and drop but can't make it work - can anyone tell me how to attach a photo to a posting?

You have to host your picture somewhere ..photobucket is pretty good then when you've uploaded it to photobucket underneath the picture there will be about 4 codes ..you want the img code just click on it and it will copy it ..then come here and in your reply box right click and copy your code . ..it should already have the brackets around it ..if not just put at the start and [/IMG] at the end and your picture should show ..any probs give me a shout

Two years ago a young chap in the next apartment came with hand luggage only. It contained 2 pairs socks, underwear 1 pair of shorts, 2 T shirts, and 6 cans of lager. I think he wore the rest to travel in.
