Last Sunday's Observer reported that there is a General Strike scheduled for the 26th Sept. Anyone travelling on that day will have grief if air traffic controllers, baggage handlers and taxi drivers are participating. Does anyone have any more concrete info?

A General Strike on 26th Sept is confirmed with a great many articles on the web.

OMG I do hope not! last year we got stuck in Rhodes airport for hours on the way home from Halki due to air traffic controllers strike. It was hell and this year we have Vicky and the grandchildren with us. John swore he'd never fly to Rhodes again and took a lot of persuading this year so it'll be all my fault!!! Do I warn him now or not?

Gilly, I'd picked up from a previous post that you would arrive (under normal circumstances) on 26th, a week after us. I am sure that someone else will post something with greater detail in due course but here is but the one link to be going on with - with apologies livingingreece.gr/strikes/

Thanks James, it will make the start of our holiday a nightmare but at least we'll have the rest of the holiday to recover! Maybe it won't happen! Here's hoping.

Fingers crossed for you (and everyone) - as you rightly say rest of holiday to recover versus the return to Blighty ! Best wishes.

I've just read "Fear and Fury walk the streets of Greece" by Helena Smith (Athens) in the business section of yesterdays Observer and it's pretty sobering.

Oh dear indeed - bloody hell, think we're about to start waving the white flag. We're now considering cancelling our reorganised flights on the 26th and re-booking for next July. Where are you flying from Cathy?

Next July is a long time to wait Stuart! I've got a mega journey next week, I fly from Manchester so this time I'm on a bus from Stirling on Tuesday at 9.30pm to Glasgow then Glasgow to Manchester arriving at 4.15 am which is when the check-in should open but now probably looking at a 12 hour delay - oh joy! To be honest though over the years I've had various delays due to strikes etc and it's not that bad, as long as Halki is at the end of the journey Were you only going for 1 week? If Marie is up to it you should go, at least you've got prior warning about the possible delay and can kinda plan for it - think positive

Well - if Marie gets the all-clear tomorrow, we'll still be attempting to go. Maybe see you there (who knows)

Fingers crossed Stuart that Marie gets the all clear today and that you get to Halki next week without too much hassle.

Marie got the all-clear yesterday (I secretly wasn't really expecting that) - so we can go! just got to contend with air traffic control now. C'mon ATC. Be kind to us!
