Travelling in September with hand luggage only but got contrary advice on Fixed-cartridge razor blade (disposable razor) - on Directgov web site they say you can carry them in your hand luggage but EJ have said no. As we won't be checking in a bag wonder if anyone has a definite answer to this.

If you are flying Easyjet and Easyjet say no, the answer is no!
That is the definite answer!
There is no evidence based reason for any security measure. Just do as you are told and you will have no problem.
Peroxide bomb so no water. Shoe bomb so X-ray shoes... sometimes! Underpant bomber so no... action whatsoever!!!!

A good question well asked Bev and Simon, as ever, a good reply. The thing that I've never understood on the question of disposable (or any safety) razor is once you clear security at say, Gatwick, then you can buy these items in Boots the Chemist prior to boarding the 'plane.

Never one to give up when getting conflicting answers about anything I pursued EJ with the razor question pointing out to them that the Directgov web site said they were OK. Have finally got a further response from EJ which advises: 'Per our investigation, disposable razor blades can be carried in hand luggage', They do go on to point out that the final discretion lies with the security staff at the airport but in reality this actually applies to anything you want to take on board so hopefully there should be no problem.

Well done Bev, a good result, as sensible decision and a helpful steer to all. That was my point exactly, you go through security with hand luggage and then can safety/disposable razors in Boots (at Gatwick).
Hope you enjoy your holiday, we are now on countdown until next week.

They do go on to point out that the final discretion lies with the security staff at the airport but in reality this actually applies to anything you want to take on board so hopefully there should be no problem. I wish I'd known that when the security people hoiked out a very expensive bottle of extra virgin olive oil I (madly) packed in my hand luggage in Lesbos 2 years ago. Some lucky staff member must have been laughing all the way home with that one.

We would have bought in LGW Boots but according to the web they don't open until 5am and our flight is 5.45 so a bit too short on time so unfortunately not really an option. Also thought about buying on Halki but know for sure we wouldn't be able to get the ones Martin likes. If they get confiscated so be it but at least we can try!

Hi James, thanks for your feedback. Have looked at Trip Adviser and glad to see we're not the only ones asking the question. I have also since checked Gatwick's own web site security information which says 'Razor blades (razors that have the blade set into a plastic moulding) are allowed in hand baggage, but other types are not)'. So will put them in wrapped up in a copy of that web page! Can't wait to get out there and do more than our bit for the Greek economy at Apostolis!
