This time we achieved our goal and actually ate at all the tavernas. Our favourite was definitely the Minori. The food was beautifully cooked and presented, with some dishes we hadn't met before adding some interest. Try the beef with vegetables and the lamb with greens. The other great bonus was the quality of the house wine. Both the red and the white were definitely very drinkable. Good food always deserves decent wine.

I agree about the lamb with greens. Definitely my favourite dish there. And the greens are actually lettuce! Apparently it's Maria's mum's recipe. Very big portion though. We tend to share a starter then share the lamb dish.

Marias' fricassee (lamb with greens) is to die for In fact I haven't eaten anything else on the menu, because I could never pass up on opportunity to have the fricassee And no I won't share my portion of it. ;D

we recently returned from our 1st Halki experience (wow I miss it!) holidaying with my parents, hubby & 3 children. I have to say Minori helped make the holiday perfect - my little one has a healthy dose of Autism & ADHD, Mike & Maria were Amazing (capital A). Mike made sure the kids had what they wanted, entertained the little one relentlessly (giving our 14yr old a break which he readily admits made his holiday :s)while making sure the grown ups were happy too, & Maria's food was a delight - the 'Glossa' (?) fish was perfect, the lamb and greens... mmmm, beef stew... now trying to work out how I can convince them to send her stuffed vine leaves back to the UK... the wine was lovely and certainly kept my qualified ma & pa happy can't wait to go back... 343 days to go...

Great to hear you and your family enjoyed Halki so much. John and I are taking one of our daughters and two of her children, ages 8 and 10, with us this year. John's a bit concerned that the children will be out of place as apart from the Halki children, who are at school, we've seldom seen any children and we've been going since 2004! Your review has made him feel a lot happier!! Thanks . Only 2 weeks to go before we're back there!

Hi lobelia and , like Liz has already said, welcome to the board. Glad you enjoyed your first 'experience' of Halki. We first went in 2003 and , like you, could not wait until our next visit. We have now been 10 times and we have booked for next May/June and also September. gilly - The Halki children usually finish school at about 1pm so the afternoons and evenings (round the harbour) are good times for your children to meet them. ;D

Thanks bobandjoan. Now I remember seeing children playing football in the evenings on the piazza . We're so looking forward to our Halki holiday. The lamb and greens at Minori! oh and the stuffed vine leaves! Hope you have a happy time in Morocco.

Welcome to the board Lobelia. So pleased that you enjoyed Minori Gilly, it's been a firm favourite of ours ever since they opened. Can't wait for my first helping of stuffed vine leaves in lemon sauce next week. Portions are always huge so we tend to share a starter and a main with a side dish. Mike has a very shaky hand when it comes to the Metaxas too.
