When I left on 6th December last year I called a taxi in the early hours of the morning for the <10min journey to the airport €21. (This includes a callout and early surcharges). At that time petrol was around €1.70 per litre. Now, I am reliably informed, petrol is around €1.90 per litre An increase of about 10%. I know taxis run on diesel mostly, but the factor still holds. I would think that taxi fares will be up by 10% this year. By December 2012 I will probably be paying €25. I think this will be more significant for Diagoras to Kamiros Skala which is a bit longer than 10mins! Aren't I the little ray of sunshine?
Perhaps recent visitors can confirm or deny?

"I have it on good authority that pixie f*rts are extortionate now .... something to do with inflation" So you know about the secret industrial site up in the mountains where they keep the pixies on a diet of Jerusalem artichokes, beans and brussel sprouts? It is not a happy place... ...the atmosphere is terrible.

Taxi fares in Rhodes (and Greece in general) are more likely to rise if there is an increase in VAT, rather than based on the fuel prices alone. An increase in VAT has been discussed for nearly a year now. Rhodes and the Dodecanese benefit from a reduced VAT of 16%, compared to the 23% of the mainland, but this might change. Fingers crossed it won't !

Daisy, I just noticed something;
"Grin and bare it" How exactly do you pay the taxi driver?
Perhaps, I hope, you meant "Grin and bear it"?

I find that deeply disturbing, and I will not follow up with the obvious question.
Some things are best left unknown!
