I have just posted this message on Halki Visitor which I can see is only just up and running and then found this site with more members to ask all my questions!!
I have just booked to stay at Olga Apartments with Direct Greece from 4 - 11 October.
Our first time to Halki, although have stayed in Rhodes three times. We were victims of the XL crisis, had booked for Stoupa with Kosmar and didn't think I would get anything as good at such short notice!!! Apparently we got the last room at Olga.
Halki looks just what we need for a week's relaxation - any information would be welcome, restaurants, beaches etc and particularly about Olga - I see Direct Greece aren't using them next year? Are they in as good a position as the brochure states? Also is there a bank or reliable ATM - didn't want to bring lots of cash, but am worried about not being able to draw any money out!!! Also do most restaurants take credit cards please?
Any info would be appreciated - thank you.

Hi Mags, welcome, Olga apartments are situated on the harbour so you will have a fabulous sea view and only a couple of minutes walk from the tavernas and bars. I think a couple of the tavernas take credit cards but most do not, there is an ATM and this year it seemed to be more reliable but I really would reccomend taking a mixture of cash and travellers cheques as Rhodes is a long way away if it runs out. You can cash your travellers cheques at Zifos travel on the harbour, there is not a bank. Halki is a tiny island, there are only two main beaches, Pondamos which is sandy and Ftenagia which is pebble, both have very good tavernas, there are other smaller beaches some accessible by foot others only by boat, there will be a folder in your apartment with details of how to get to them. We always reccomend you try all the tavernas and bars, there are not many so it is not difficult, you will soon decide which you like best. There are some of peoples favourites listed on this board. Ask away if you need to know anything else and have a great holiday ;D

Hi Mags and welcome, I'm sure you will love Halki, its very small and friendly (locals and visitors) I have been going on my own for 8 years now and have made a lot of good friends there. It is totally safe so no worries about taking a lot of cash. I used the ATM for the first time in May and it was fine but I wouldn't want to rely on it. As Carol said all the tavernas are worth trying - I keep changing my mind as to which one is my favourite. I will be there from 1st to 15th October so will probably bump into you at some point. Have a great time.

Hi Mags and welcome ;D Olga is in a lovely poistion right on the harbour front at the end -perfect for people watching and keeping an eye on the boats We did find this year that the ATM wouldn't take our debit cards ..only our credit cards but that is the first time we have used it . The Italian Remezzo's takes credit cards but I'm not too sure about where else . As said previously Halki is safe so don't worry about taking money /travellers cheques . Try all the tavernas - we all have our favourites but they are all worth a go ...I'm sure you will love it

Thanks to Carol, Cathy and Liz for your replies - the apartments sound ideally placed and I can imagine spending quality relaxation time on the balcony as you say people watching!!
I am anxiously waiting for the postman at present, booked with DG last Sunday and still haven't had a confirmation invoice!!
If we land at 1.10 p.m. we aren't going to make the 2.30 ferry? Are there more in the afternoon/evening? Was hoping to have time to have something to eat in Skala Kameiros?
Where are you staying Cathy? Hope to catch up with you!!

Mags I'm afraid I haven't got a clue about the ferry, I've always gone with DG on a Wednesday so don't know about a Saturday transfer. I'm staying at Nikitas and my days there pretty much are the same, during the day I go to the beach at Ftenagia and lunch at Nick's, pre dinner ouzo at Theodosia'a, dinner where ever my feet take me (I like them all) then back to Theodosia for coffee and metaxa. It's a small place so no doubt will bump into you!

Mags -I'd check your dates ..DG usually travel on a wednesday ..but if you are going on a Saturday then there should be a ferry from Kamiros at 4 pm ..you should be in plenty of time for that

I can relax now as tickets have arrived (still no invoice guess that will arrive later!!!)
Yes DG do fly on Saturday - it's a British Midland flight out and a Thomas Cook coming back.
Can't wait - two weeks today will be there - now feel a week won't be enough!!!
