We found this little critter on the Kerali terrace, it brought fear to all of us, the little thing was about 3'' long We later went out and found some of his mates chomping through some lush green vegetation, they cleared the lot in no time at all. Are they a special Halki Moth or should we have thrown them into the Med....

Let's start with it being a Hawk moth caterpillar. Green with eye spots. I am on Halki with no access to my reference books, only Wikipedia, but I think the plant is Oleander which is highly poisonous and, if it is, the caterpillar is an Oleander Hawk moth. If they are like most caterpillars they concentrate the toxin of the food plant and make themselves inedible to predators.
I am prepared to be shot down in flames if I got it wrong!
Brilliant photographs by the way. Top marks! *****
