Fatcat, Google: www.anek.grClick on: Our fleet Scroll down to: Prevelis Pretty picture for you there. I'll guarantee it looks a lot better than the ship "in the flesh". Most of those old Japanese built buckets look the same. ;D

One of the Lane Line ferries was an old British ship and certainly had better lines.

I have just become very confused. I was checking in to see how the temperatures are doing (we have just 3.5 weeks to waiot now) and I spotted the heading "New Ferry pictures" . I was a little surprised. What on earth is somebody posting pictures of New Ferry on the Halki site for? I know that there a a few fellow Wirralians on this site so my initial thought was "contrast pictures" or something like that. You know "New Ferry Beach in the rain" compared to Ftenigia or Pondomos. But no, I had misunderstood. The posting was not about a small town on the Wirral in North West of England but the fact that Lane Lanes have a new ferry boat. This is both good and bad news. My wife has become very attached to both the Vitsentzos Kornaros and the Ierapetra and I know that part of her Halki experience will have been destroyed. Oh well, maybe she will similarly bond with the newbie! Indeed for a photograph of New Ferry Shore here on the beautiful (in parts) Wirral please check out: www.panoramio.com/photo/8141577Cheers Tony

Ferryman, assure your wife, she will miss nothing. As Pda has said, the Anek ship is streets ahead of either Lane Line vessels. It would not be difficult I'm bound to add!!

Many Japanese shipyards churned out dozens of very similar ferries between the mid 70's and mid 80's. Some minor differences in length, tonnage etc but basically the same blueprint. They have served their various owners and nationalities well over the years and the Greeks have been among the biggest purchasers. They are now reaching a stage when they are showing their age, some more so than others. Some Greek owners have had the finances to invest in their tonnage more than others. L.A.N.E. were not one of those.

Apart from one or two recent builds in operation between Greece & Italy, show me a Greek ferry that does look good. In the next few years when the SOLAS Regs., begin to bite, hopefully we will see the demise of some of these horrible atrocities. There will then be an even bigger line up of rubbish parked in Eleufsis Bay. Rant over.

Di, apparently it was the Royal Daffodil 11 It was converted and then used in Greece. Just in case you are feeling impressed by my extensive local knowledge, I have to come clean and admit I found out from the INTERNET! ;D
