Hi all 33 days to Halki but........ We're looking into Tilos for next year, don't line us up in front of the firing squad yet please Just wondering what the ferry connections are from Rhodes. Presuming we get the same flight as this year we'll land around 3pm local time. I remember reading a comment somewhere that the Fedon used to do the Kamiros/Halki/Tilos route on the Wednesday. Does anybody know what the arrangements have been with Olympic for the last couple of seasons? I have emailed them to enquire, good luck with that I hear you say. A quick check on the ferry sites reveals no service from Rhodes/Tilos on Wednesday. That then sets the alarm bells going off as we don't really want to overnight in Rhodes before and after our stay. We will probably take a day trip there this year just to case the joint, or we may not, depending on how chilled we get Thanks in advance for all your words of wisdom. Tom and Rose

Nissia take clients over each Wednesday pm, so there is a connection in theory that runs from Mandraki. Having said that, as the Tilos island boat was in dry dock last year awaiting funds for repairs/service, they were using the Thursday catamaran via Halki with a 1 night stay in Halki for the return leg. Fedon's route the other year was a short term arrangement, as I was watching via Marine Traffic's website and I don't remember it lasting more than a couple of months.
Might be worth touching base with Nissia to enquire what the transfer arrangements are expected to be this year

A quick scan of the Sunvil brochure reveals. "The direct ferry service which used to connect with our Wednesday flights to/from Rhodes did not operate last year. We understand the island is trying to get a replacement boat for 2016 - however should this not happen then the following arrangements will be made. Transfer on arrival to a central Town hotel for overnight on BB basis. Thursday morning transfer to port for high speed ferry dep 08:30 arr Tilos 10:30 where you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. Departures will be on Tuesday afternoon - dep Tilos 16:20 arr Rhodes 18:20 where you will be met and transferred to an overnight hotel in town. Transfer the following day to the airport. Please keep and eye on our website which we will update should the ferry situation change. Please note these ferry timing are based on 2015 schedules." I've corrected the spelling mistakes in the copy and paste from their web site. We've only got the brochure because of the pretty pictures, have you seen their prices? Will pop to the office and see if they mind having their brains picked during our stay. Cheers Tom and Rose

Hi Soupdragon, we had a week in Tilos last year before our two weeks in Halki, we travelled independently and I think you will find you will have to overnight in Rhodes on both the Wednesday you arrive and the Tuesday before you leave, it didn't matter to us as we were heading to Halki when we left Tilos but it is not ideal otherwise I agree.

Hi Soupdragon. We've been to Tilos for the last four years and used to get the Sea Star on a Wed but last year had to overnight in Rhodes as there wasn't a boat. Last Aug/September both Olympic and Nissia were using the Dodecanese Express on Thursdays, but don't know what they're doing this year. The Sea Star that used to do the route on Wednesday was moored up in Rhodes and as far as I'm aware was waiting to be sold. They were saying, as far back as last April that Tilos was going to get another boat, but nothing has materialised yet. We're going again end of August and have booked the Dodecanese Express. If you are looking to stay in Rhodes and go over on the Thursday, I'd book fairly early because last year it was full and turning people away.

Hi Di If we do book something it will be a package rather than an independent booking. Everything I've read so far indicates that we'd need to stay over the day we land and the night before we fly home. Something we don't want to do. It's still early days yet and if we find somewhere that we really REALLY fancy then we may consider the stay over. The more I read about the island, the more I'm liking the sound of it. Fingers crossed the powers that be will sort out a Wednasday ferry though, Fedon sounds good to me Cheers Tom and Rose

Unfortunately it seems unlikely that anything is going to change from last years ferry/ catamaran arrangements, shame really as it must affect a lot of people who would like to go there for just a week. The Fedon helped out two years ago but it was doing it's normal daily route from Halki to Kamiros Scala last year with day trippers and holiday makers and not going to Tilos.

Just had this come in from Nissia on their start of season update newsletter:
"From the 29th of May 2016, the Express Nikos ferry, departing Kameiros Skala harbour on Wednesday and Sunday will offer a connection between Rhodes and Tilos, via Halki. A crucial boat connection for the island, the locals and our Tilos guests!"
No info on timings but it would suggest that the Express will depart KS roughly 16.30 on Wednesdays as normal.
Clearly Tilos haven't yet managed to sell the old boat and/or find a suitable replacement.

Thanks for info Steve. The loss of the Sea Star has made visiting Tilos a toosh more difficult to plan. This year we will go to Tilos on the Diagoras and then on to Halki for our 'Halki Fix' via the Dodekanissos Express. Flights already booked so our dates are cast in stone but news of the Nikos Express service will be useful to the 'Tilos faithful'.
We are visiting Halki slightly earlier this year hoping to circumnavigate the Russian visitors....Kania was 'BUSY' last year!!!!
Trust you and the 'magic camera' will visit Halki as usual.

Will be j90 - we're due 'in country' last Wednesday in June, assuming no hiccups with Easyjet's Gatwick flight. Will take all the usual kit - mix of digital and film. Really would like to get up onto the high plateau again and may have to bite the bullet and use the taxi if the bus isn't running other than late evening, once a week again this year.

I suspect Dimitri's busy beach runs will preclude many forays to the Monastery area and beyond. However, we look forward to your photo's where ever they are taken.
As you say it might well be a a single evening visit, numbers permitting !
We managed to join an early evening trip up to the Monastery a few years back and wished that we had done it much earlier in our visits to Halki. In our younger years we also did the early morning walk to the castle and breakfasted upon our return with Nickos at Pondamos.
A very friendly local gave us a lift down in his '3 wheeled thump truck'from the old village......much easier than walking and 'very memorable'!!!!
See you there Steve.
