Photo archive has shots in 2007 album of the monastery in evening light. Must be the first year of the bus and of Nissia - it was an organised trip with a meal for a modest donation. We were staying in the old sponge warehouse on the front (name eludes me for moment) and had a litter of 3 kittens living in the storm drain just behind us. Lovely creatures - named them as Gin, Whisky & Brandy (who was a brindle). Accommodation dropped after that year as owner (allegedly) wouldn't do the mods needs and it's been on the indi list with own web site ever since with much much lower occupation levels than Laskarina or Nissia generated (when we've been on the island).

Hi Soupdragon.. I know a couple of nights on Rhodes may not sound like what you want but don't write it off .. Rhodes old Town is lovely for a night or two and a meander round the back streets .. there are some lovely places not too far from the airport for a nice meal and a relax before or after a crossing .. we were pleasantly surprised a couple of years back having had a couple of days on Rhodes before Halki .. I know its not the serene tranquil Island thing .. but variety is the spice of life !! ( she says back from a week in Ibiza .. which was beautiful , friendly, relaxed, interesting and all in all fabulous ! )

Did you make your own arrangements or were you on a package? I've heard mixed reports about the different places people have had a sleep over. Maybe it depends what time of day you arrive and how many passengers there are?

Hi Tom and Rose, I totally agree with Liz, last year because we were going to Tilos first we stayed overnight at the Best Western Plaza, very nice hotel and very comfortable and on the way back from Halki because bad weather was forecast for our day of departure we caught the Prevelis to Rhodes and booked the Lydia hotel and a late extension so we didn't have to leave our room until 7pm for our late flight, the Lydia was lovely, a great room with a balcony and very friendly staff, we will definitely stay there again this year. We book everything ourselves, we haven't done a package since the days of Direct Greece.

We actually stayed in Haraki .. did it ourselves .. we had planned for a week in Haraki and a week on Halki but we had to change to just 3 days in Haraki .. now that is a quiet resort ! but Handy for Rhodes town and Lindos which are both well worth a visit ( although I'd go early to Lindos as it gets very crowded ) we hired a car but I think it all be done by bus .. on our last night we met a couple who'd had a day trip to Halki , they were green that we were going over for a week .. we drove to KS and left the car there ( keys under the mats LOL ) I've heard varied reports on where the stopovers are , some good some bad .. at least if you do it yourself you can choose ... I personally wouldn't hesitate to stay on Rhodes again

Forgot to mention that I had a reply from Olympic. They can't say what the arrangements will be as yet but should know more by the time next year's holidays go on sale. She'll ring me then. On another note. We've had this year's flight changed. From 9.30 with Germania to 07.35 with Small Planet. I've read various reports about Small Planet, some not so good. As long as they get us there and back in one piece and on time we'll be happy. Can't be as bad as good old Dan Air used to be those were the days....... Cheers. Tom and Rose

Dan Air!! Strewth, you must be nearly as old as me! I used to deal with a bucket shop selling Laker Airways tickets, I can't remember whether that was before or after Dan Dare, but it's going back a bit. Maybe we could start a drachma appreciation society. Apologies, I realise this is getting a long way off the topic heading of this thread.

I'm sure their aircraft were airworthy but sometimes we did wonder. Plenty of rattles and a general air of them being "past their sell by date" are memories that stay with us to this day Cheers Tom and Rose

What's the latest news on the Tilos ferry from Rhodes soup dragon? Cheers Andy and Dawn When we were over in Tilos last week the Nikos Express was doing a Sunday run but not the start of the season promised Wednesday one - as a fellow Olympic ruffian we were over-nighted in Rhodes (albeit the other side of the island but hey 'you pays yer money' etc etc!) on the Wednesday and again on the Tuesday return using the Dodecanese Express - which actually broke the tedious journey to and home again in some ways!?

What's the latest news on the Tilos ferry from Rhodes soup dragon? Cheers Andy and Dawn Hi Andy Can't say I've checked recently but hopefully a more convenient solution will be put in place. If/when we do have a holiday there we'll be much happier if we get there on our first day of travel Cheers. Tom and Rose

Hi Soupdragon I wouldn't hold your breath for a regular Tilos crossing just yet (we've been waiting for one for the last two years) but, hey ho, you live in hope. With regards flights, we had ours changed from Germania to Small Planet at the end of May (out of Manchester) and was a bit apprehensive as I've seen some dodgy reviews (mainly about delays from a couple of years ago). Had no need to worry. The flight was great, on time (well, almost) with a really friendly crew; you also have a fair amount of leg room as the planes have all been refitted with slimline seats. I'd have no qualms about flying with them again

We'll second that about Small Planet. Our flight from Manchester in May was also changed from Germania, no problems at all apart from the usual minor delay
Cheers. Tom and Rose
