Hi Keith and welcome, there is quite a bit of info on here already if you check out the accomodation section, anything not covered ask again, it is a popular property so someone will know the answer ;D

Friends of mine stayed there last July - they said it was fairly basic, but good enough. Good thing is that traveling with Olympic is actually probably the cheapest way to do Halki these days.

I tried to find some info for you from previous posts in the accommodation section but couldn't find anything. The search brought up nothing.
We stayed there some years ago so can't comment on the inside now as I believe there have been some alterations & improvements, although friends stay there regularly and are very happy with the rooms. Until someone replies who's been there more recently, I can tell you that the views from the (shared) balconies are wonderful, the rooms are, as Stuart says fairly basic but perfectly adequate, and not too far from the harbour front, although there are quite a few steps to negotiate.

Thanks Simon ;D that is the page I was referring to. Keith, there are three main beaches, Ftenagia which has a shingle beach and wonderful taverna with seperate bar, the sea shelves very steeply after a short distance, Pondamos which is sandy again with excellent taverna, sea is shallow for quite a distance and Kania which last year had been greatly improved and now has sunbeds and a cantina on the beach, again it is pebble. These three beaches are all accessible by the minibus but Ftenagia and Pondamos are easy to get to from the village on foot, Kania is quite a good walk away. Tavernas are always personal choice, what others like I may not so the advice is to try them all, there are only 7 on the harbour plus two grills and a few bars plus the tavernas on the beaches, I guarantee you will soon find a favourite. Take a look at the photo board there are lots of photos of the beaches on there although mainly Ftenagia, it will give you some idea, if you know Symi I am guessing Halki is like a tiny tiny version of it and lots less uncommercialised, you will love it

We have stayed at the Kaliopi for the past five years, and are returning in September this year. We found the accommodation to be basic but adequate and have always thoroughly enjoyed the island of Halki. I'm sure you will to.

"The big problem on these proboards is trying to find archive stuff. There is a "search" function which is as much use as a chocolate teapot. That's why we get the same questions over and over and over... again. You need to search each entry to find what you want even if you know it's there." As an experiment I also tried the search function and failed! This is the link acquired manually: halkivisiting.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=accomadation&action=display&thread=473Moan ,moan, moan ;D

So tell me what I did wrong Liz.
I put Kaliopi into the search box and made sure both options were ticked (subject heading & message). And it came up with nothing.
Is it case sensitive?

No Amanda, it is totally useless! You can set the time to look back to whatever you want and it still won't find anything older than a week. You have to sort through all the threads yourself. But I am sure Liz will show us that this is not true if only to put me in my place again! Go-on Liz, show me to the naughty step!

We have stayed at the Kaliopi many times.. I agree with all the others who have stayed there that it is basic but clean.. and the views are lovely.. I would suggest a torch for coming home.. as some of the steps are a bit uneven.. Especially after the Retsina !!!
