A certain bar had no draught beer in the middle of the September!
It seems "It was nearly the end of the season" so the distributor decided no more would be wanted.
This situation was sorted out!
I wonder how many British restaurateurs would like to be able to work for just five months and live on the proceeds for the rest of the year.
I fear it may take generations to get the Greeks to understand "Customer Satisfaction" and good business practice.
The weather here stays better than the UK until well into December. Note, I do not mean hot, just better! However, the Greeks need the remaining seven months to recover from their five months work, so I cannot ever see the season being extended.
Just as well the Greek economy is in a such good state, that they don’t have to!

Well they say it's the lowest form of wit, but I'd disagree - that really made me laugh out loud Simon.

we were in Crete 2 weeks ago and menus were limited , and to be honest I dont blame them , we asked for chicken in the oven etc and it was a no , if your only gonna get two or three customers then you dont want to cook something that wont keep and lets face it ..none of us us want to hear that 'ping' so to me its a foible of travelling late in the season and I'd rather travel late to Greece than early or on time to alot of places ;D

Does anyone know whether any tavernas will be open in the week beginning 19 October?

Both gyro places + avra/blacksea should be open. Babis has closed. Not sure about other 2.

Relating to the first post in this thread, yes, Remezzo was the first to close. We were the last table eating there as they packed up all the other tables and chairs around us.
When they gave us the menus, instead of telling us what the specials were that evening, they started by telling us what was not available, which were unfortunately mostly our favourites (inc. chickpea pappies, aka patties!, and houmous).
We still had a lovely meal with their usual exceptional service and look forward to going back next year.

An update if anyone is interested. The following are still open - Babis, Avra (Black Sea), Marias (when it is not raining), Volandis grill (will be open all winter) and the other grill (where the gold shop used to be). Lefcosia's is also open and the cretan one where Avra used to be is closed but rumourede to be opening up again (I see no sign so far). The Square bar, Apostoles, Lakis and Theodosia are all open. Weather hot and sunny (despite the rain earlier in the week - see my other post 'Halki in the rain' under General.

Pda, went there in September in a group of eight. Three of the meals including mine were almost inedible and one main dish never appeared at all - forgotten. Following that experience & having heard earlier stories, I didn't return. I'm afraid I can be quite unforgiving when standards dip that low. Let us hope for a general improvement all round next year.

Sorry, just read your last and to clarify, I was referring to your "October Favourite" Anyhowsomever - I trust your forthcoming visit serves up all you may wish for.
