Pay to send us to Faliraki if this is 'where we belong'! I think that it is an extreme miscarriage of justice to desribe the British teenagers holidaying with their doting parents in Halki as 'surly' 'rude' and even 'little sods'. We are simply making the best of the quiet island and spicing it up a little! Sounds like some people should be phoning up Richard Branson and requesting the hire of one of his virgin Islands...No pun intended, I assure you. Happy holidaying! And many thanks to the other British Teenagers in Halki for making up the numbers!!! See you next year my luvvers!!!!!!!!

Some of the things that people say routinely about teenagers would have them in serious trouble with the law if they said them about some other minority groups. Looking at it logically, we know that most teenagers are perfectly normal and O.K people. How do we know that? Because we were or are normal and O.K as teenagers. What do we then conclude about people who are not aware of it?

kevinperrygolarge, I think you are missing the point of the original post you are complaining about. No one likes to have to sit and hear people making rude comments about themselves or others, I'm sure you wouldn't like it if someone was making rude comments about you or your "doting" parents and as for the egg throwing, whoever that was - grow up (I assume you cleaned up the mess in the morning or was that left to the residents : . I wouldn't put up with it here so I don't see why I should have to put up with it on holiday. You go to certain places because you expect them to be a certain way - if I want to see exhibitionist slappers flashing their boobs in the street I'll book to go to Malia. Do you see my point? As for branding the whole of the teenage population as "surly, snide little sods", I believe the sentence started with "there were some". Why so indignant . I personally think that anyone who acts like that, whether they are a teenager, middle aged or some old crusty deserves to be called a "surly snide little sod" . Glad I got that of my chest ;D

I have been accused of making rude comments to the people who lifted and moved my anchor. For sure I lost my temper, and that was wrong. I actually completely lost it when I got the response to my question, "What the hell do you think you are doing?" Anyone reacting to just what I said subsequent to that reply would be outraged, but unless the complete incident is followed from the start a biased view can be taken.
Rude remarks about fellow holidaymakers? What were they, and why were they made?
OK, now the egg throwing. At midnight on Yoghurt throwing day. For one day in the year can we not be a little indulgent? Clearing up the mess. No they didn't. The Dimos did that, as they did with the smashed bottles etc. after Panagia; see photos. Again not much mess, and only one day.
I recall the horrendous mess in Prince of Wales Road, Norwich after every Friday and Saturday night's enjoyment at the "Nightclubs"! One day a year I can handle, and Greeks versus Brits, why not? I am sure that when the event was over they were all friends.

Kinygos, I am intrigued by your reference to night-clubs on Prince of Wales Road, Norwich. It used to be a mainly shopping street plus some offices, with Wallace Kings furniture shop near the top end (near Upper King Street) and places like Willmotts cycle shop further down on the opposite side. But this was before it became a one-way street - I used to cycle to and from school along it. I doubt there were any night-clubs in Norwich then (late 1950s, early 60s) and certainly not in Prince of Wales Road. The nearest thing to a raucus night out was the cider and stout at the Adam and Eve pub, where they didn't bother about the customer's age.

The Sampson & Hercules in Tombland was not functioning in your time then? That was the first, followed by others, Then everything slowly moved to Prince of Wales road and it became a nightmare every Friday & Saturday night.
I thing the council's idea was to concentrate it all in one place to make it easier to police.

I hope others don't mind this thread being slightly diverted into memories of Norwich! Yes, the Sampson and Hercules rings a bell, but as far as I can recall it was a pub. I left school in 1962 so maybe it became a night club after that. I go back to Norfolk from time to time (brother lives in Wroxham) but in recent years have not been into the centre of Norwich. The times they are a'changin. I understand that even the Norwich Grasshoppers hockey club fell from its one-time eminence some years ago, and Harleston Magpies became the leading hockey club in East Anglia - from an early 60s viewpoint that's amazing!
