For discussion. Sorry about the explanation preceding it, I think it is necessary
In the Mediterranean with no tides it is normal to moor a boat stern-on to the Jetty, or pontoon. This involves dropping the anchor and reversing to the pontoon to moor. The boat is held in place by the anchor and two stern mooring lines. The anchor is attached to the boat by a chain and or rope. It works, not by having a massive weight, but by hooking into the bottom. The chain, being metal sinks and the pull is along the bottom helping to dig the anchor in. Winching in the chain lifts the anchor, unless it is hooked on a rock or chain on the sea bed. Many of you are amused buy the yachts who get their anchors stuck and have to get a diver to free it. I have a device called an anchor buoy. This is like a plastic egg with a reel of webbing tape inside on a spring loaded drum. It is attached by the strap to the “wrong” end of the anchor. Lift it, pull on the strap and the anchor is tripped, even if it has caught a chain. Sounds good to me Yesterday I moored as above using a lot of chain and rope as I will be returning to Rhodes for a few days. I was having a beer with some chums, when to my surprise I saw my anchor buoy being pushed under, played with, and dragged towards my boat. The anchor had been tripped. I now had 10 metres of slack loop in the chain. The analogy is letting off the handbrake in somebody else's parked car. I was vexed! Who would do this? Children? Testosterone filled adolescents? The dreaded Day Trippers? Actually two men in their late fifties, or early sixties presumably from one of the apartments adjoining Christina(Nissia?). I swam out and said,”What the hell are you doing with that?” I told them it was my anchor buoy. I might have expected,” Oh, sorry”, or something like that. Instead I got,”It wasn't there yesterday so we moved it “;”We didn't know what it was”. I told them to leave it alone. I got the response, “If you want to speak to me be polite” Was I being a “Tony Martin”? Should I have said something else? Incidentally it also explains why I kept finding it three quarters full of water. If you hold it down in the water, upside down you can see the funny bubbles come out! Discussion open!

You can't do anything with, or about, people with that attitude, not unless we are allowed to shoot. Thanks for the explanation of anchoring technique. It gives me lots of sadistic pleasure watching boats attempting to tie up to the pontoon, some after several attempts slope off, others then decide to tie up alongside. The young man with the whistle added to the fun at the end of June as he picked on the the really clueless.

Giannis-the-whistle is a great guy. He does get exasperated with some yachties! As I have said before it is not easy to do this with a large yacht. I did ask a hirer if he had the ICC*. Aparently they hire out yachts to people without checking qualifications!

Kinygos, regrettably I think Charlie is correct. There will from time to time be someone who will, for reasons best known to themselves, want to interfere or fiddle with gizmos like your anchor buoy. They see nothing wrong in their actions. (Could be retsina ,beer or ouzo fueled). Such folk don't relish being chastised and will attempt to make you look like the transgressor. Human nature at it's quirkiest. You may have managed to prevent the present boyos from doing it again but you won't ever stop it from happening again. All this said, I appreciate your feelings and can well imagine your reaction. C'est la vie.

Hi Kinygos next time pull the anker up, tie it to the swimmer and let him go again. Nobody will miss them. Never forget what I allways told you: Shit happens. Sometimes you are the pigeon, somtimes you are the monument.

T'was not me ;D ;D..what I meant was people sometimes think its ok to fiddle with other peoples stuff ..we have returned to various properties to find lads fishing with our rods -rowing about in our boat and generally messing with our stuff ..its not usually a problem -obviously in Kingyos' case it is different ..but people are nosey and something different requires investigation

That's my First Officer that is; absolutely brilliant!
Oooh er Mrs.!
Trussos blesses you!
A certain Mr. Grumpy upened his rubber dinghy to dispose of juvenile Greek pirates, within swimming distance of the shore; just! Said dinghy was damaged by the brats.
Anyhow at least nobody thinks I was unduly rude to the persons concerned. The buoy has been removed. Hopefully I will not provide entertainment with a stuck anchor. I am back in Rhodes now and feeling a bit more secure.
