I notice that no mention of fish has been made in this section; excluding anchovy & cephalopods. Does this mean that the efforts of Keith Floyd, Rick Stein et al have failed to inspire? Conversely, is it that the price of fish on Halki is so off-putting that no one wants to eat it? I chose a wild black bream instead of a farmed gilt head (not available) and ran up a bill of €37 for fish, salad & wine. I enjoyed it, but…
Further; does anyone cook fish at home, excluding Floyd’s “Unidentified frying objects”?
Oh, and yes we do eat what we catch. See Halki Fish in Photographs; Dorado, Tuna, Amberjack & Barracuda.

These are
Octopus, Squid (Calimares), & Cuttlefish (Soupia)are chephalopods!
That, and the expense, stops it for most people I guess.
Then there is also the look of some dishes.
I can remember Asia offering "Fish Soup" When people ordered it I can also remember their faces when they were presented with Kakavia; potatoes, onions in a broth with a whole jolly red scorpion fish sat on top!
This was a dish I used to enjoy!
That being said come fish with me and enjoy fresh Dorado(Kynigos). Bones even easier to manage than salmon.

We ate fish quite a lot - we always do, I don't eat meat - including fish stew one night in Kiki's place. I love fish, and cook it regularly at home. I don't mind bones, just get stuck in and use your hands! As a Greek man once told my husband "there are 3 things to use your fingers on ... fish, chicken and women". I'm notu sure what that meant

There is encouragement for me in some of the replies. For many years, I kept poultry and was shocked by the “Fluffy Bunny Vegetarians” who were prepared to buy broiler-reared fowl in plastic bags, but were upset that I killed and ate free-range birds.
Latterly I used to offer fly caught trout to people, and to prepare the fish for them. Once in the kitchen I was presented with knives that barely sharp enough to spread butter! To this end, I had to take my own. I was left wondering how much real food preparation was carried out in these kitchens; “I don’t like sharp knives”; GOOD GRIEF!
Gratuitously killing anything is wrong, but there is an immorality in getting someone else to do it for you, and then pretending the pink lump in a plastic bag was never part of an animal. Sounds like I am preaching from the gospel according to Hugh. I suppose I am.
I am glad to hear that Liz lets her children catch fish, but I suspect Nick prepared the catch before cooking it, and would have still done so even if sharp knives had been available!
Two tips. Any given fish has a set number of bones, so the bigger the fish, the better the ratio of flesh to bone. The fresher the fish, the easier the bones come out. If the bones disarticulate, the fish is loosing its freshness, unless cooked for too long; difficult to time in a fish soup or stew.
Unfortunately, not many local commercial fishermen store their fish on ice on the boat to preserve freshness as I do.
Finally, to show the spirit of the hunter hides in most of us, here is an anecdote. One lady who asked to go fishing with me, and landed a Dorado of 11/2Kg was so excited by the experience that she told everyone about it; repeatedly. Some days later, a guy I had never seen before saw me drinking coffee at Kostas and came over to say, “If that ****** woman tells me about that ****** fish one more time she is going in the harbour”, and walked off!

I started this in the "Food & Drink" section.
Perhaps a Pornography & Lust should be started for those who wish to lower the tone?
Ladies, I am shocked!!

We do normally indulge in fish at Ftenagia once or twice, cant tell you what we have though, last year they were long and thin with a very pointy face and we have also had very large silver fish that feeds about 4 people, over to you Simon I am sure from my wonderful description that you know what they are ;D ;D ;D

Certainly not. To do so would be repetitive, crass and boorish, on the other hand, given the quality of jocose abuse sth produces, why not? It would save the intellectual effort of raising his humour to a higher level, assuming the ability exists!
