Talking of ships, where in Halki harbour did the Kiri Stanis [correct name?] sink? I remember going on it to Tilos the first year Laskarina 'did' Tilos. It was a nightmare journey which took 5 hours from Kamiros Skala. The rep spent some time looking for the life jackets and the captain had one of his men standing at the back of the boat to make sure that our luggage didn't fall off. I still have slightly fond memories of it.... surprised that I am still alive.

Between the headland by the hotel and Nissi right in the middle of the channel. Sad end to an interesting old craft. Happy memories.

So let’s talk Marinas. This is Brighton Marina, obviously on the south coast of England. Note the complex structure of concrete arms to create a sheltered harbour, and the pontoons in that sheltered environment. Similar for Lowestoft. Incidentally pronounced Low’stoft, NOT LowEStoft! Now we have Fanes harbour. It has a silting problem and, I would suggest, a lot of wasted space. Correction of this would not be difficult. Now my suggestion for Kamiros Skala; yellow for concrete and red for pontoons. Again for Halki; same colour coding. Just a suggestion. Any thoughts?

Certain Yachties can be a bit snooty! But there have been similar remarks made about "Day trippers" on a noticeboard, not far from this one! An unwise use of synecdoche? We all have to start somewhere. We should all be more tolerant, but not of antisocial behaviour by the few.
I put my marina where the existing one is, but in concrete and high enough to protect.
Incidentally for those who think mooring a yacht stern-on is easy, try it!

A good suggestion for a marina on Halki Simon, but I think that it would have to be further away from the jetty, out beyond the "Italian House". The reason for this is that there would be considerable opposition from the owners of the expensively renovated waterside houses who would not welcome a marina right in front of them! However, if the path was extended from the village good moorings could be achieved with the added bonus that they would be further away from the turning circle of the big ferry. Another advantage would be less noise. Unlike your boat which is silent when moored, there is a lot of noise from sailing craft, the rigging rattles and bangs all night and dare I say it, yatchies can be a noisy bunch when returning from a good night out.

At the request of Howard. How about here? I don't think there are any power cables in the sea bed!

Yes, that should work. No power cables, but they might find the odd amphora if someone is not happy with the site! Next problem, where does the money come from, I suspect the EU has spent it's Halki budget, and some.

Speaking as someone who stays every year very near the existing pontoons, the rigging rattling and the slurping of the water is very soporofic. The metaxa obviously contributes to the fact we rarely hear the returning 'yachties'.

Madcap idea in Greece - no way!! Nothing derogaory meant by this either.
You are obviously like me Lynn - I have had enough of heated discussions after a day at work and just need to chill by the time I get the lap top out. Perhaps one day (in about 20 years) when I have more time!!!
