I'm thinking of spending a few days on Halki from approximately 29th September to 4th October.
Does anyone have suggestions about accomodation? Shall need a 1-bedroom studio/apartment with balcony and sea-view.
No travel agencies please. Prefer to get in touch with potential landlords myself.
Thanks a lot. Ermioni

Hi Ermioni, your best bet would be to contact Zifos Travel, Zifos has many properties to rent that are owned by Halki people or Liz used Greeklodgings, thoses are privately owned as is Villa Yorgos where we are staying next year, all these websites are on this page. Good luck

Hi Ermioni - Like Carol says I used Greek lodgings and have direct contact with the owner - there are a couple of studios /rooms on that site , you can google accomadation and you may get a couple more but they tend to be the bigger houses -I know I have contacted Zifos in the past re studios before he had his website -I'm sure that if he hasn't got what you're looking for then he may be able to point you in the right direction

Sorry to bother you again.
Zifos Travel doesn't answer my mail. I understand that they must be very busy at this time of year but they don't even acknowledge the receipt of my inquiry.
Greeklodgings don't have much accomodation that I fancy. Most is simply too big. And some links don't lead anywhere.
So I'll try the experts on this noticeboard again: has anyone ever stayed at Paola Rooms or Pension Cleanthi and still has a phone number or maybe e-mail of the owners?
Can you give opinions about the places named Roula, Kaliopi, Aura, Kalidea, and Captain's House?
A lot of questions, I know. Still hoping for answers, Ermioni

The Captain's House always looks interesting when we walk past it - it's set a little back from the water side but seems to have a lovely garden including a raised seating area - I think that's the closest you'd get to a balcony there though.
Accomodation for independent travellers for just a couple of nights always seems to be a bit problematic on Halki. On most of our visits we have usually encountered people searching for a room.
Good luck with your hunting! Do let us know what you manage to sort out.

Another possibillity might be the taverna at Pondamos - I think they have rooms there. My understanding is that they are pretty basic but you are right on the beach Unfortunately I don't have a phone no. for the taverna though

Hi Jennifer, Accomodation for independent travellers for just a couple of nights always seems to be a bit problematic on Halki That's what I read in other travel forums and it seems to be true. On most of our visits we have usually encountered people searching for a room. This is exactly what I want to avoid. Good luck with your hunting! Thanks a lot. Thanks also for your description of Captain's House. I take it that the garden is shared by all and the rooms have no individual balcony or terrace. Do let us know what you manage to sort out. I may end up going to a different island altogether Ermioni

That would be a pity because Halki really is a lovely place ... I do hope you manage to get something sorted out!

Bob Fordham may have the accomodation you are looking for, he has a balcony with a wonderful view over the harbour. We are staying with him in September, but have to fly home from Athens on the 29th, so I believe he could accomodate you. His e-mail address for bookings is Bob@wildthymewalks.com and his website is on www.wildthymewalks.com

Does Bob rent the rooms separately? I had seen the website but assumed that one had to rent the whole house. Ermioni

Yes, you can rent one room. You will find Bob's contact number on his website, I suggest that you give him a call.

Goodmorning Ermioni, I visited Halki this summer and stayed in Villa Lilitsa. I loved the place!!!!! The house is right in front of the sea (ftenagia beach) and there is a taverna there as well. The villa is very clean(!!!) they have a bathroom and a W.C. (very important to us-we are a family of 5) and the owners are very friendly people!!! Do give them a call. They gave me their card: www.chalkidream.gr We'll visit them back next summer. Enjoy your holidays!!!

A big THANK YOU to all who readily forwarded advice, but first and foremost to Howard who suggested I get in touch with Bob.
Bob helped me a lot and I can now look forward to a couple of hopefully wonderful days on Halki.
Thanks again, Ermioni
