I just can't see why people think he's depressing. I find him one of the wittiest, funniest performers around. And it's worth getting the full DVD of him in London - the BBC programme was only a sample. The CD of it is on my ipod and will be with me next time I'm in Halki.

No, much as I like Cohen, it must be Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Alkistis Protopsalti or Dimitra Galani from the town hall speakers.

Sorry, but there has to be a mix of music - especially at Ftenagia. Greek music is great but becomes rather monotonous after a while. I agree that Greek music is wonderful to hear at night whilst having a meal and socialising, however there are many who go to Ftenagia specifically for Angelo and his music and I am sure I will get some back up on here from Stuartg, before he leaves for Halki. Please leave Ftenagia alone and let Angelo and Nick run it how they want!

Yes , we watched a couple of hours of him on BBC4 last night. Not having heard much of him prior to reading about him on this website I watched with interest. For what its worth I was quite impressed

Hi Pappas, you must have missed my "wink" on that posting. The tongue was wedged firmly in my cheek. It was also off thread and I must apologise for that. However, in response to your comments, I am in no better position to influence the type of music being played at Ftengia or any other establishment, than any other Halki devotee. I don't actually frequent Ftengia for the music. To be honest, I don't even go specifically for the food which is excellent. I go because Nikolas Iraklides has been a close friend of my family for some 20 years. We have supported each other in our times of need. The taverna is a great ongoing success and long may it continue. It is a huge credit to him especially when one remembers what he started with over there on the rocks, and the many, many trials and tribulations he encountered along the way. I know too well exactly what music Nikolas would play if it were down to him alone. Vangelis, as you and we all know, is a law onto himself! As for Leonard Cohen, there is a certain nagging attraction about some of his work which I have been blind to until this Halki Visiting site raised the awareness. Enjoy you holiday (and whatever music pushes your buttons).
