Good to hear your news from Tilos, I have never seen those nasty critters, maybe they are something that arrives early season, in September we do get hornets 🐝 which are quite horrible. If you want to eat 🐐, I would recommend you take a look at Dream which is along the front past the Micro bar, the owner generally has something on the spit and you may be lucky and get goat.....his lamb chops are enormous and the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Definitely go to the micro bar and go up on the roof as the sun is going down, beautiful views and a great place to just chill, mainly just enjoy your few days, we love Halki but we always have a wonderful time in Tilos, it is very different but very chilled and friendly.

Not much to report today really. Just a wander up and down the prom stopping for a refreshing beverage on our way back. Such a strenuous morning demanded our usual afternoon nap. They really are just the ticket to set you up for the evening. That Dream taverna sounded right up our street (thanks Carol) and going by the reviews on TripAdvisor we decided to give it a go. We were disappointed unfortunately as they hadn't opened for the season so ended up eating elsewhere. Our shared starter was garlic mushrooms a la creme. Oh yes, so tasty and the sauce had just a hint of cheese in it. Top notch indeed. I had goat in tomato sauce while Rose had pork gyros plate. I wasn't that fussed to be honest. Maybe I picked the wrong dish of goat but it was on the bone and there was a lot of bone to work around. I found the meat very like lamb so it should have been a winner but by the time I'd sorted the meat out I'd lost interest a bit. Anyway, back at our room and have a reliable cup of Yorkshire with some of those wafer biscuits that we got yesterday. Got a question for those sea faring types who might read this. Why do the motor yachts always seem to go around in circles about a dozen times and go backwards and forwards almost as often before they actually leave harbour? I won't pretend to be educated in the ways of the sea so I'm sure there's a good and valid reason for their actions but I'd love to have a small understanding of why they do that before leaving. Answers on a postcard to the usual address if you would. Only a short one for tonight but should be back to normal tomorrow. See you all back on Halki Cheers. Tom and Rose

Sorry to hear Dream wasn’ t open Tom, I admit to having the enormous lamb chops there last year but he had goat on the spit and when I said I had never tasted it he sent a plate full of it for me to try, very good it was too, and yes it did have the taste and texture of well cooked lamb. You will need to go to Tilos again to make sure you get some. Looking forward to normal service being resumed when you return to Halki

Usually because the anchor has been caught or entangled on something on the seabed. Happens a lot and some ports are worse than others. Or it could be of course that they simply haven't a clue what they are doing. Also happens a lot!!!!

We thought it may have been something to do with training the lesser experienced members of the crew or people who have hired the vessel for recreation purposes.
Just having a final chill before we're evicted. I'm sure that we'll find another fine place to relax while awaiting our lift back to Halki. More ramblings later

Tom, just a thought if you want somewhere to sit and have lunch with a view, the bar/cafe at the Ilidi rock is our favourite, it is a bit of a walk up the slope but the views and food are second to none and you are near the harbour for your catamaran later😎

Stupid mobile phone.
I was almost finished typing up my latest entry to this thread when my phone fell from my grasp. As I reached for it I must have pressed the browser home button and have lost all 15,000,000 words that had previously been entered.
If you'd read most of the lost text you'd know that we're both absolutely cream crackered. As a result this is a non entry and shall endeavour to resurrect whatever I can recall in the morning.
Might might for now
A very weary Tom and Rose

The phrase, I've had a sleep since then now springs to mind.
Can't recall much of what was lost by the user error last night. I do remember having a conversation with George from Remezzo about which island is the preferred one. His opinion and it does make a lot of sense is that for most people it all depends which you visit first. So for us the preference is this little lump of rocky niceness over the other slightly larger lump of rocky niceness. I think I even used an inflated balloon game term saying Halki 1:0 Tilos.
We must have been really tired last night as we had to take our unfinished pizza home with us for today's lunch and worse still take a rain check on the obligatory on the house ouzo.
Well it's nearly time to pop to the local provisions vendor and stock our cupboards up again so I bid you good day for now
Cheers. Tom and Rose

Ahhhhh Full normal service has been resumed. After a spot of light shopping. Not particularly light on my wallet mind. We managed to find our way back to base. Luncheon was the remains of Remezzo's finest reheated in the oven. Not as nice as fresh but it's still tasty. We seem to have got ourselves quite attached to those wafer biscuits that we first had on Tilos, thank you to the random kindness of a nice lady. We purchased some lemon flavoured ones in the local Asda today but they just don't cut the mustard like the hazelnut chocolate ones. Afternoon snack with brew over it's time for the usual recharge so I'll take up today's doings in the next chapter. Ah...... Still with me, good. For this evening's calorific intake we headed to see Christos again. Strange that last time I had the braised beef, the Greek side of the menu indicated Kokinisto. This time it came as Stifado. No complaints there really as it was very tasty indeed. We confirmed with him that they do still serve gyros pitta during the day, it wasn't on the menu so thought it best to ask. Can't visit Greece without sampling the food of the Gods. Back to tonight and the other plate of food ordered was the stuffed burgers. I think I may have mentioned them in the "our first time" thread. They were just as flavoursome as I remember even taking into account that I have had a good many sleeps since then Oops, nearly dropped the phone again. Steady lad. We plan on having our first and long overdue wander to Pondamos tomorrow. Fingers crossed anyway. We've got our day planned out. Dimitri's rolls first order of the day for our bacon and egg rolls. Then after a shortish while we'll struggle over to Pondamos for some refreshments. After a stay of an as yet undetermined duration we'll head back for our first gyros from Christos. That's how our wake up to afternoon snooze is pencilled in anyway. If it turns out that way all well and good, if not all well and good too. Just having some on those lemon wafers with a brew. They will not go to waste I assure you all. I don't like waste, must be a generational thing. The young-uns these days just don't get it but then they get saving the planet and all that environmental stuff that some of us have been harping on about for years. The penny will drop with the power's that be one day. We'll be ok (dead and turned into fertiliser by then) but the poor unfortunates that are still growing up might have a different story to tell. Or questions to ask of their grandparents, like why didn't you do anything about it? How did me not liking waste get on to that? I blame the sleepy juice, it's always worked before Night night. Start again tomorrow...... Tom and Rose

Well that was one of the most lazy days we've ever had in any Greek location. We both have no complaints about it but feel guilty. Sometimes it feels like we're wasting part of our holiday time but then again not so. I can't speak for every holidaymaker in the world (although for some reason I don't class coming to Halki as a "holiday", it's more like visiting friends you've not seen for a while), but both Rose and myself put the hours in back home. Me at work or Rose running our home, either way our time in Greece is for total relaxation so in that respect having a really lazy day is part of why we visit Greece. Anyway, needless to say our plans to visit Pondamos floundered. Thankfully we did manage to get out for lunch, a big fat fully filled gyros, thank you Christos I must say it was one, if not the largest pork gyros I've ever had. And while Christos has provided on a good few occasions, these took the crown. So that, coupled with a slightly later that usual breakfast led to us not being particularly hungry come evening meal time. The thought of lamb kleftiko usually sets my taste buds off but not today, Rose was the same so, wait for it.......... We had an evening in and when we finally did fancy a nibble we just had a quick sandwich. What is the world coming to? All the tasty food that's available mere metres from our door and we're too full to enjoy it. Let's hope that common sense finds us tomorrow and we can at least venture to Pondamos. Well it's time for a quick shower before bed and a brew. T.T.F.N Tom and Rose

Election day eh? Didn't see too much. There were a few stuffed shirt types doing the rounds, shaking hands and generally doing what useless politicians do when they want re-electing. I would hope that, at least on Halki the local officials wishing to represent their community would actually spend more than the "off season" on the island. Rose managed to find a picture of the candidates that are/were standing today. I won't judge, and going by some of the candidates that are standing for the job of conservative party leader, our government representatives leave a lot to be desired, but some look like they hope to reside behind a desk for most of their tenure. Might you all get the impression that I don't take to those who, may, have other things on their minds than to spend a chunk of their day a good 90 minute ferry ride away from the people they hope to represent? Again, I hope that the local government officials of whatever standing or rank here, would do somewhat of a better job than our miserable lot back home. Rant over I really enjoyed my bacon and egg roll this morning. Maybe it was due to circumstances following on from yesterday? I don't know but it was tasty Still no wander over to Pondamos today. I'm starting to get worried you know, only two days left and we've only been to Ftenagia once and nowhere near Pondamos, let alone Kania. What is the world coming to wall? All we managed to do was a bit of shopping from Asda, I see they've had a delivery recently Evening meal took us back, again, to Valantis. We had a menu reversal tonight. I bagged the lamb stew and Rose had the chicken souvlaki. Both were delicious as per usual. Don't tell Rose but I was slipped a sneaky souma, not a small one either. Didn't have any that I recall a couple of years ago on our last visit but it's flavour soon burned it's way back through the mists on time to our first time on Halki. After a chat with our outbound travel companions we headed back to our little sanctuary. Currently supping yet another marvelous cup of Yorkshire. I do hope there are no tea snobs reading this. Back in the day we did all (well, most) of the "nice" teas that are available. I won't list them all but we ended up ditching the pot and strainer after many a "do you like this one? Maybe not much as the last, but it was ok" type conversations. Now we settle, no that's the wrong term to use. We don't settle, we chose to drink Yorkshire tea. Harrogate's finest. Doubt it's ever been near Yorkshire actually but it matters not. Pardon me whilst I take some before it goes cold. That's better. All is now well in the world, till tomorrow at least. So for now it's time for a bit of prolonged rest and relaxation. I'm sure tomorrow will bring more excitement, if it does I'm not telling you about it τα λέμε αύριο. Tom and Rose P.S. I never realised that was how it's correctly spelt
