As an occasional past user of the Monarch Wednesday morning flight from Gatwick to Rhodes (though the last time was some years ago now), I feel we should perhaps have a little wake on this forum. They did at least provide an alternative to others, with a potentially convenient time schedule, and also provided a bit of competition which will now be missing. I suggest their employees should get the Freddie Laker Award for at least trying to carry on against the financial odds.

Never used them directly but any dilution of options is never good. Issue seems to be more to do with getting into areas of business which they weren't a natural at and not ring fencing that operation so it doesn't impact the core business if it doesn't work out. Lot of businesses (of all sizes) have made that mistake in the pursuit of the great god growth rather than accept a gentler, 'organic' uplift from doing it well.

We've used Monarch loads of times and had two flights booked with them for next year so spent part of today looking for alternative flights. Sad to say, none of the ones I looked at could match them, either in price or flight times. Monarch, you will be sorely missed (at least by me  ) |
