Found this in The Denver Post: Corpus (he the CEO) said Photobucket started notifying users in early June but admitted many emails bounced or were never opened. Discussions to address customer outrage are ongoing. What’s important, he said, is a customer’s entire photo collection is still available. They must log in and if they decide not to upgrade, they can download their images and go elsewhere. Corpus confirmed that Photobucket has no plans to impose a deadline to upgrade, and the company won’t delete any photos.Simon's reaction is not unreasonable and quite understandable - the new fee (which he didn't mention in the original post) is $399 pa. Ouch! Here's the link the full article: www.denverpost.com/2017/07/16/photobucket-fee-hike/

Not good Simon, have you lost all your photos that were on there? OK, firstly I have lost nothing personally. I hear of people losing cameras and "All their photographs" and I think "idiots!" I have everything saved and backed up to the hilt. I have absolutely nothing stored in only one place, and neither should anyone else! Storage is so cheap these days backing up is simple. My problem is all the photos on this board are now invisible unless I pay up, or host them somewhere else and reference them all again. The latter is time consuming and whoever hosts them could pull the same stunt and I am back to square one. This has occurred suddenly, without me uploading any more pictures. It means that my "Coast of the Island of Halki" is a total waste of time as a photographic reference. It took a lot of time to set up and it has been trashed overnight. For Liz and the banners. I had a lot of stuff on Photobucket, your banners are few. However, if they decide to bring the level down, who knows? The first thing you will know about it will be the replacement of the picture with the message: Please update your account to allow third party hosting together with a dial showing 100%. It does not show what constitutes 100%, so I suspect that 100% is going to be fewer and fewer photographs as time goes on. until <10 becomes 100%!!! Who knows. You will certainly get no warning. Any ideas welcomed.

Yes I thought you would have them elsewhere... annoying though! It is a case of, do I forget it and stop posting photographs, or do I: 1) sort out a hosting site. 2) download all the photographs to simplify the indexing. 3) put all the photographs I have already used on the new site 4) extensively go through and re index every photograph I have posted using the downloaded index to locate and change to the new index. Simple little task. Alternatively of course I could pay the $399pa ransom... ooh look what's flying by... oink, oink, oink!

My Photobucket account holds only a couple of dozen images. Today, I received the invitation to "upgrade" to allow the hosting to continue.

Here's an attempt (number 5) to get a photo in my public "Dropbox" folder to appear here... my old harbour image... It's the longest link that I've ever seen... but you won't see that..unless the image is missing... Dropbox is free and is quite useful for cross-platform storage.

There is no quick, easy fix for this. There are lots of "free" hosting sites, but I suspect they will go the same way as Photobucket after a while. I do not object to charging provided: 1) it is a reasonable fee. 2) It is not suddenly and unilaterally changed once a large number of photographs have been hosted. I am still looking into options, but to be honest, I am not prepared to put a lot of work into setting things up again until I know that the result will be permanent. This is not high on my to do list.

Might be worth mentioning that though I can see your image on my phone it doesn't display on my desktop at home (using Chrome browser). It just shows a little square box in place of the image. Might be just me of course

Re-reading this I was reminded of a problem I had a while ago with the "coast" project. My son sorted it for me. It turns out that Proboards will not accept long links, so this introduces a wild-card factor. What happened to me was that the link was split into two lines and therefore did not function. It arose because I tried to organise my photographs in Photobucket in sub-directories. It may be possible to set up another site, only to find that the links are too long for Proboards. I admit that is not likely, but imagine the frustration. As I said before, this is not going to be easy and it is definitely not a priority for me

Flickr takes movie clips as well as stills. You can organise your folders (rta 'albums') into 'collections' very much as you had done with Photobucket. Flickr is free unless you choose to pay $25 pa for a 'Pro' account which gives you stats on 'hits' on your items and ad free views for you.
Worth a look.

Do you have your own hosting site (perhaps I am thinking of someone else) and if so how much does it cost? I do have a flicr account, but stopped using it for some reason. I think I had problems with movie clips, but I don't remember... it's an age thing I guess.
