20,21,22,23/09/16 Off to Rhodes to collect Clive and Jill and on return Clive and I looked at the boat trying to analyse the problem. We called in Alex, of “Alex Marine” and he said that we needed a diesel engineer. We finished feeling a little despondent. 24/09/16 A morning spent fiddling about resulted in nothing and I set off back to Rhodes to handle the arrival and transfer of Howard and Lynda. 25/09/16 I collected and accommodated them overnight. 26/09/16 During a morning’s shopping I visited “Twin Marine” and they suggested a blocked fuel vent pipe. Information I relayed to Clive; Clive is a resourceful problem solver! We returned to Halki and Clive had discovered a possible blockage in the fuel supply pipe. Alex had shown that the fuel filter was clean. What was going on? An experiment with some diesel in an old water bottle showed that the system was fine. I was able to blow through the fuel pipe, but in so doing I put so much air in the system it wouldn’t start! Diesel is prone to infections in damp conditions (on a boat!) and the bacterial and fungal growth will cause problems. Like angina pectoris in the human body. I suspected a biofilm in the pipes in the fuel tank. 27/09/16 Solutions were sought and it appeared that the flow and return to the tank could be reversed. More fuel pipe was sourced from Alex Marine and the task was done. We called on Alex to help bleed the system... ...While we waited I helped to moor some yachts... Chalkibert had visited the dentist and had got me some diesel biocide so I added that to the tank. 28/09/16 The wind was still too much and Thanasis had removed his boat so, with Clive and Jill’s help I removed his mooring for him and moved my boat further inshore.

29/09/16 The wind was down a little today. It was fishing with just the crew. Sadly this means that we had to buy our own beer afterwards! We got seven Little Tunny and a solitary Dorado. Some stills of the action! We had some beer at Apostolis, Clive had sat on his glasses! then back to do the fish. Again it was a case of the Dorado and the largest tuna as darnes; Clive wanted to try it anyway. The others were prepared for smoking. We had the fish supper at Levkosia's. Clive felt I was too critical of Little Tunny, but it is still way behind a rare Yellowfin (or Bigeye) Tuna steak! Always handy to have an ex-chef around to do the fish prep and give me a rest! The ladies that cried "Dinner"! Cooking tip! Good Yellowfin Tuna steak should be cooked on a hot pan with a little oil/fat of your choice so that the pink turns white for one third of the thickness. Then turn it over and do the other third. The middle third should still be pink. Accompany the steak with Asparagus and or Samphire and a baked potato. In my opinion Asparagus and Samphire can be best cooked between two plates in a microwave on high power. Once plated up (you may wipe the pan to clean if necessary) add more oil/fat chopped garlic to the pan and once golden pour it and the butter/olive oil over the steak add lemon, salt and black pepper to taste. Crisp dry white wine as you prefer of course! DO NOT TURN A TUNA STEAK INTO GHANDI’S FLIP-FLOP PLEASE! In addition, a frying pan is made out of cast iron. You cannot use a recycled hub cap for this job!

30/09/16 Oh what a disaster! We took Nicholas fishing again. We felt that the sea had calmed a bit so we might get round today. We tried and passed Myrtos and immediately realised our mistake, so we turned round; too late Poor Nicholas started to be sick on the return trip. Bless him he wanted us to carry on. There was no way we were going to do this. We did fish our way back and picked up a solitary Lesser Amberjack in the area in the midst of Krevati, Ftenagia, and Nissos; the place where we expect them. Nicholas was all in, but still protesting about us stopping the trip. We moored side on to the pontoon, dropped him off, prepared the fish, and picked up Frau Chalkibert to go to Kania.

02/10/16 Today we took John fishing. John came out last year, but this year he struggled. His speed and co-ordination were lacking. His “chums” Alan and Mike were delighted to hear that and have been waiting to see the video. I have friends like that too! Please remember that this video is made with friends for friends with good natured ribbing. As we passed Pondamos we realised something was amiss. One of the Eleonora’s falcons was in hot pursuit of something. The “something” turned out to be a pied wagtail. It whipped around the stern of Kinygos II and landed under the stanchions on the cabin roof holding the hard top. From there it moved forward, gasping for breath. He eventually left the boat at the end of Trachia flying low over the water. We were hit by a couple of Dorados and I gave the first one to John, when he eventually arrived at the rod! He quickly lost it. So I gave him the other rod, and he lost that as well! If you have watched these videos you should know by now that the technique is to hold the rod with the left hand above the reel, with the but braced against the body The rod is pulled up and the line is wound in while lowering the rod, keeping a bend in the rod at all times. It is not possible to just winch the fish in on the reel, unless it is very small. It is incorrect technique to hold the rod horizontal and try to winch the fish in rolling the rod as the handle goes round! Sounds simple enough to us!

03/10/16 This was to turn out to be the last trip of the season with Jane, with only a couple of fish to show for it. Nice fish Jane, but what big fingers you've got! 04/10/16 The next day the fuel blockage problem returned and a trip was quickly aborted. We stripped the riggers off the boat and I loaded her up with most of my goods. 05/10/16 I took K2 to Kamiros Skala for hauling out by Tsampikos. She is now waiting at Twin Marine for treatment. And I shall be returning to the UK on 01/11/16. This is the last chronological entry in the blog.
