Must admit that even though I do like LC's version, Jeff Buckley's is by far the best ;D ;D. The X factor one is typical x factor (why do they need to warble all those high notes ... all it does is attract bats) Apologies by the way to anyone who likes that version

Oh blooming heck. I hate having to say this. I really hate it but I have a massive confession to make.
I know I ridiculed all the LC fans and I still wouldn't give his voice house room BUT
I love hallelujah AND I didn't realise that LC wrote it. IN FACT I love it so much that I had a browse through You Tube and much preferred the version by the bloke who did it for Shrek and also one by a Scandinavian band.
IN FACT I liked it so much I asked my son to download the SHREK version and he did and it's been on my car CD and my iPOD pretty much non-stop.
I apologise profusely to all those LC fans that I have ridiculed in the past and I apologise also to all those people who hate LC because I feel a bit of a turncoat.

Lynn, keep the faith and continue to ridicule the LC fans. Seemingly the complete Hallelujah dirge by LC runs to 80 verses therefore, if one ever listened to the complete song the inclination to commit suicide would probably bubble to the top. There is only one thing more depressing than listening to LC and that is listening to Mahler though the result is the same.

Lynn! How could you! It's ghastly!
Sorry LC fans, but it really is a dirge to me. Trouble is it's one of those dirges you can't get out of your head and it's been driving me mad. Luckily we had our carol service at church last night so I'm pleased to say that Hallelujah has been replaced by Hark the Herald Angels.
Now come on Lynn, pull yourself together girl ..........

Sorry!!! I promise not to do it again. Enforcer I agree with you about Mahler. Although I have to say that the best thing about Mahler was selling a pristine record album on ebay 3 or 4 years ago to someone in Germany who paid me £45 for it. I was just glad to get rid of it. Mind you there are "bits" of Mahler's 4th that are not too shabby.........

Lynn, just when I thought you were in the process of redeeming yourself with your promise to Amanda you spoil it all by actually admitting, in writing for all to see, that you once possessed a record of Mahler. Please tell me it was an unwanted present.

I love em all- including the cheesy X factor version. Who is this Mahler bloke? Is he in the charts too?

That's spooky Lynn. I was only thinking of your record sales yesterday! Don't ask me why.

Enforcer, you have put me into a very difficult situation here because it wasn't so much an unwanted present but it fell off the back of lorry about 23 years ago. It was a 2 record box set with a famous pianist (whose name escapes me now) being the main artist and it was in pristine condition with me only having played it once - and hating it. I started the sale off at £1 thinking that I would have to take it round to the rubbish tip and I was gobsmacked that it got 45 quid. However, I also sold a still shrink wrapped box set of Jose Carreras singing Pagliaci and another Puccini opera and that sold to a very nice lady in Switzerland for £65 and she told me that she had got a real bargain and she paid almost 30 quid for me to ship it to her.
Which just goes to show that if you hang on to a load of old rubbish for long enough - it might just be worth something.

Despite the big birthday I can't be old enough. Did LC sing it then? DOH

OK Lynn you are forgiven and redeemed, the back of a lorry will suffice as a sort of present. I visited Switzerland a few times when I lived in Germany and you confirm my impression of them – a strange race but well suited to Mahler. Do you think that once I have transferred all my old vinyl to CD I might sell off my Cliff Richard and Duane Eddy records? A Happy New Year to all!

Thanks a bunch Harry but I am old fashioned – shirts are for wearing not lifting. ;D Although I liked the music of Culture Club I will always err toward my favourite group, Steeleye Span.
