I feel mention should be made of the sad passing of Martin Schmidt. Martin was one of the earlier ex.pats in Halki. He was a home owner, boat owner (Meltemi) and avid fan of good Irish whiskey. I will miss him as will many others, in particular certain locals with whom he forged a very strong friendship. My condolences go out to his partner Gabi. RIP Martin.

Yes I will miss him.
He was perhaps better known by residents and semi-residents than the general holiday maker.
He did do a photographic thing, not a calendar, that some may have been familiar with?
Sympathies with Gabriela.
A "fight" with the dice loaded.
Rest in peace Martin.

This is sad news, we did not know Martin well but often exchanged a few words. Condolences to Gabriella.

Sadly it has come to my attention that Hans (Yiannis) Limmer has passed away and been interred in Halki. I knew Hans very well and had many conversations with him at the house he rented just past Pondamos on the right. A highly educated man and a keen sculptor, he was always an interesting companion and an absolutely perfect gentleman. I hope he finds the peace that I feel he sought for many years. RIP.

More bad news, anyone remembering the shop that used to be next to Dimitri's will have known Evlambia and her late husband who ran the shop. They always kept sweets and cake behind the counter to give to our kids when we called there..Proper old style shop selling everything under the sun.. Unfortunately she died yesterday on Rhodes, a lovely lady..RIP..

That is very sad news. She was a good friend for many years and we visited her in her apartment in Rhodes when we could. She and Dimitri shared meals with us on Halki. Great shame. I will get in touch with her family. Thanks for the post Philip.

Many thanks for the news. Used to hide coming out of that shop in case Petros saw us!

He seemed fine, within obvious limitations, when I was last on "The Rock" about two weeks ago.
You've really surprised me with that news; very sad.
As you say, "another familiar and friendly face gone. RIP"

Very sad news, when I was a smoker, I saw him most days. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family who cared for him so well.
