Surprised at that sth. We went there 3 times 6-8 people and the food was good plus reasonable compared to other places. May have been influenced by the raki though. It was next door that we had by far the worst meal & that was unexpected given the reputation. No-one wanted to risk a second chance...As its still open will try again with just the 2 of us. Hopefully all the salt has been used up by now....

Yep, "next door" didn't excel either. One visit was a disaster. Bad year for food on the island in general. Strange that one go across to KS and have any identical meal and it is perfect. A "couldn't care less attitude " has developed.

C'mon guys, all Greeks know that all Northern Europeans are so rich that we will pay through the nose for any old rubbish and shoddy service.
For example the entire function of the German economy is to finance the Greek economy; see the amusing explanation in "Off Topic": "Justification".
What are you whinging about? As it was, so shall it always be!
Just remember to bring a Finnish fish filleting knife to cut up "Gandhi's flip-flop" (but mind your fingers)!
Then shut up and pay up! (Even if you didn't get the meal!)

There was no element of whinging. Plain statement of fact. You know it, I know it. End of!!

It seems you did not catch the contained irony?
..or perhaps you felt that others may not have grasped it!
...so to clarify; I am with you all the way!

I caught it. When it comes to a miserable performance in a restaurant, be it in Halki or Alice Springs, I believe in calling a spade a spade or even a G's flipflop.

Can't we have a taverna review section ? Maybe if enough people comment on the state of each one then some improvement might be made.
Or am I being overly optimistic...............

Can't we have a taverna review section ? Maybe if enough people comment on the state of each one then some improvement might be made. Or am I being overly optimistic............... There is a paradox in the Greek psyche whereby, as a Brit, you may find their level of conversation intrusive to the point of rudeness. This is not how meant to be perceived, yet we do not like being asked personal questions such as “How much do you earn” I have lost count of the number of times that Greeks have said of my Sportfishing, “This system no good” This is usually delivered at full volume, frequently prefaced by “We don’t do that”, and followed by “We will show you how to do it properly”. To a Brit this is downright rude; to a Greek it is being helpful. They do not understand the concept of Sportfishing therefore, “This is wrong”, and they tell you so; loudly and forcibly! Succeed and you get “This is not possible!” Conversely, they do not react well to similar criticism. I visited some chums staying at a hotel in Ialyssos and in the bar, the barman was ranting at the residents about an adverse criticism of the hotel published on the web. This went on for most of the evening; as each new guest arrived, he repeated the procedure. I looked up the offending item written by a Finn. Here it is sic. “Very nice staff – very poor location Nice people runs the hotel. Spacy rooms.
Very noisy traffic close to the hotel and the restaurant area. The hotel is located close to the mainroad from the airport. 30 minutes to walk to restaurant areas. Not very nice around the hotel. Better to stay in Rhodes city or in a beach hotel. This is in the midle of nowhere.”I do not think this is unduly harsh; in reality factual. Some of you may be familiar with this road in high season. It is busy far into the night. However, the reaction to the comment was disproportionate. Therefore, I advise caution in criticising the tavernas specifically on this site unless you are sure that your identity is not known!

If you want a taverna review section you can have one , when we set this site up we said we could and would be honest and open . I'm sure no one wishes to cause offence but at the same time we are quick to praise as well . As long as reviews are honest and accurate with no personal comments ( like the waiter had blue eye shadow etc ) Replies will be welcome too from owners/staff etc . I'll set it up as soon as I can but we will keep an eye on it , if it causes too much aggrevation then we may have to rethink
