I have finally got around to editing my videos of 2018.
Sadly 2018 was not a good year for me on Halki. The weather was the worst I have known. We only managed one circumnavigation of the Island. I am not sure, but I think that the Nikos Express did not do the “Round the Island” trip at all in September. I suppose it was only to be expected after the heat in July and August. This always sets up the Meltemi, but usually we get a break. In 2018 the heat was extreme and the resulting wind in September was relentless. When we could get out catches were down and fish feasts a bit rare. If we can’t travel far we always miss out. We “Skunked” more times in 2018 than in all the years I have been running Kinygos II.
Finally my First Officer decided to do some impromptu skydiving off a ladder and, after a spell in Rhodes Hospital, we returned to Halki just before a good southerly blow. I felt discretion was the better part of valour and took Kinygos II back to Rhodes to haul out about three weeks early.
I came back to Halki. Sadly Chalkibert was not permitted to drink beer, so I had to drink it for him. He had tears of gratitude in his eyes as he watched me drink it.
