Returned on Wednesday after 11 nights on Halki .. wonderful as ever ...
We had a late flight to Rhodes landing at approx 11.15 pm .. we'd pre-booked a taxi as I wasn't sure whether we'd have any trouble getting one to go to KS at that time of night .. outside the airport was bedlam ! ..cars parked and taxis everywhere...luckily our driver ran a 'tag team system' and his friend ran us across the road to the taxi ! . We stayed one night at the Althemenis Fish restaurant .. lovely people weren't phased in the least by our late arrival .. showed us to our room and then we still had time for a retsina or two overlooking the harbour . The room was simple but clean and a bathroom with good shower and a balcony .. all for 35€ .
After breakfast the following morning we waited for the Fedon to cross at 10.30, on arrival our accommodation wasn't ready but we left our bags and went off to the beach.
We stayed at Halki Muses Meme .. what a house ! .. we stayed there years ago with DG .. its been renovated so well .. still the charm of the traditional house with loads of original features but all the little touches and everything you could possibly need , absolutely everything was though of and I can't recommend it enough.
we ate at Valentis,, Poppy's, Remezzo, Christos ,and the new little one Keflis (?) next to Dimitris and the Black Sea ... all were great , we also went to Pondamos and Ftenagia and again had good meals there .
There are a few changes round the harbour , the Piazza bar has changed and they are now doing food and trying a few different things on the menu .. we didn't eat there but we did have a few cocktails there and they are a great bunch of lads having a go ..
Theres a couple of new bars too ... Skippers at the end .. we didn't try and Blue marine which we fully intended to go to but just never seemed to get to.
Pondamos now has sunbeds on the beach again which was lovely and its all sandy again, the taverna was as friendly as ever and the food was probably the best we had.
Ftenagia was so beautiful and it was lovely to see Leli Nic and Roberto again
we didn't make it to Kania this time
The only moan I have was the day trippers .. I know the island needs the business but one day we were at Pondamos it was heaving ! . we escaped to the taverna for a long lunch till they'd gone !
Returned on a 12.30 crossing with Fedon again and then had lunch at KS before the bedlam of the airport again .. its getting there .. looks much better but need a bit more organisation and more staff
All in all a great trip I just need more time to try everywhere out ! .. met up with old friends and put some faces to names which was nice too !
