Call it the “Kathleen Ferrier” effect. People on this board are obsessed with the strength of the wind with regard to ferry crossings to and from Halki. Currently it is a case of “Blow the wind southerly”. For sure it is a strong breeze, but it is the direction that is causing problems. Nissia bailed out yesterday; Olympic stayed put. They will not get off The Rock until tomorrow. The weather of late has been “anomalous” to use a euphemism. In Rhodes we had a good shower of rain yesterday (03/06/14) evening! Now we have a south easterly according to “Poseidon”, but my source says it is veering south westerly. This is a bad wind for Halki and very unseasonal.
Note to independent travellers; don’t just check the strength of the wind forecast, check the direction too. A 6 is not the only reason for the failure of the ferries being unable to go. They also have to moor at Halki and Kamiros Skala. As I read it, it looks like it is going to be SE 6 this afternoon; a double whammy. A device to access the internet is, I believe, essential for the independent traveller. Check the information and make your own decision.

Must be bad - Fedon left yesterday early pm and is sheltering in the inlet that cuts deep into Alimnia.
Another point to add to Kinygos' advise is also to bear in mind that Kamiros Scala has no mole or other form of sea wall to shelter it from any wind from the North. Halki might seem to be OK but we've been nearly stranded because the Port Police have stopped the NH or NE leaving to go to KS because the swell at KS was too great for them to dock safely.

I have a work acquaintance who is supposed to be in transit to Halki with Nissia today, mercifully, in my 'Halki Briefing Notes' I did him fair warning of the possibility of delayed/early departure and bumpy trips.

Well Fedon came back in about 16:00, Nissos Express left about 17:00, sea like mill pond now so can see no bumpy rides for tonights transfer, a bit overcast but warm

Yes, they're all here Carol. Crossings were ok apparently. I imagine some of those who left today will have missed their flights though. Any flights before 5 pm and they wouldn't have got to the airport in time. Sorry, have to get back to my gin fizz now!

Good evening all of you who are interested, Nissos Halki left as expected at 3pm today and everyone caught thier flights, unfortunately for some it was only the Nissos Halki that made the journey, therefore I am not sure if it was only the Olympic customers and the independants that made it on to Halki this afternoon/evening.
