It's 11.15 on a Sunday morning. No water coming out of tap. We missed church this morning - is this a message saying we should have got up when we heard the bells instead of turning over and snoozing?? Will let you know when it comes back on. Looking out to see for Maria the water tanker.

The answer to that is how long is a piece of string There is no way anyone can say, the island is probably more likely to run out in the busier months of July and August, but equally if the boat gets delayed for any reason it could happen then, some properties have reserve tanks, the one we rent does but most don't. It is always worth filling up a few big water bottles for emergencies just in case. In the 14 or so years we have been going to Halki I doubt if it has happened more than about 4 times and then only for a short time.

I think it's happened to us once but only for a few hours , I think there are still fires on Rhodes so that is a priority at the moment , as Carol said some properties have a back up tank but its only small so a few spare bottles of water doesn't go amiss

Thanks for the info.
We'll save some of our water bottles just in case. Best to be prepared :-)

We have a cockroach problem.
We found 4 in the shower over a few days and killed them. We found one in the kitchen cupboard and killed that too. We bought insect spray and sprayed around the doors and the whole in the bottom of the kitchen cupboard. We did this every few days.
We then found another in the shower room but it got away and one outside on the path that also got away.
We have not eaten any food at all inside the building. We have only fruit and water and wine in the fridge and yesterday bought biscuits which we keep in a snap shut container.
Yesterday afternoon whilst I was moving the pillows on the bed I saw something brown move in the sheets.
We removed ALL the bedding, took the pillow cases off, removed the mattresses from the platform and shook and banged them.
I brushed all dust from off the platform. There were remains of crisps here that previous guests must have had.
We then sprayed the platform with insect killer , shut the door and went out.
At 2 am this morning I was trying to fall asleep and a cockroach was on my hand in the bed. It ran over the sheet and onto the edge of the platform.
We killed it
We sat outside for the rest of the night since my partner felt ill and could not breathe correctly due to the chemicals from the spray.
We found cockroach droppings on the kitchen floor and in a draw in the kitchen under the utensil tray. We found the outer skin of a coach roach on the step in the shower room.
I understand that you may get the occasional insect in the shower room where it is damp but I was very upset to see one in the bed and then have one run over me whilst in bed.
We reported this to the zifos office and we have been moved to KIKI for two nights whilst Nina is sprayed and the problem looked at.
We hope this will deal with the immediate problem.
Will let you know how we get on.
Off for a big glass of wine.

Dizzy8 will be interested to hear what you think of the Kiki appartments as that is where we shall be in three weeks. I can take spiders, beetles, ants, earwigs but NOT COCKROACHES -

Sounds rather like the Seven Plagues of Halki at the moment, let us hope things improve, although it seems the well known Halki cure is being applied, a very wise move. If the sandals fail there is always the iron.
